    Kumho Crugen Tires

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Number one son purchased a new Q5 over the weekend. It has Kumho Crugen tires. ( Original equipment these days). Guessing it is an all season tire. Has anyone had experience, real time, with these tires in the snow? --Full disclosure: I am a tire freak and would never have left the dealership with Kumho's. The car will see a lot of snow as #1 and daughter ski every week. ( I run Blizzacks on my Q5 and Michelin P/S all season on my S6). Don't want them sliding off the road.

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
A self-professed “tire freak” that hasn’t heard of TireRack to look up reviews?

They look like trash, I wouldn't trust them in the snow. The silver lining is that they'll probably only last about 10k miles so you'll have an excuse to replace them pretty soon.

I was a fan of the kumho ecsta 4x's that I ran on one car a few years ago. They're probably still the best all seasons for the price. But these however, just aren't it.

My SQ5 is my dedicated weekly ski trip car and I've been running the crossclimate2's for a year or so now, at this point its probably the only all season I would trust in the snow. Extra benefit that they're tolerable to drive in the summer as well.

@bobs if you run dedicated snow setup on your car why wouldn't you do that for your kids?

If you do need a winter set, i’ll sell you my stock 21’s for a few bucks, before i chop them up and make a piece of furniture. My grandparents live on marrowstone, maybe i’ll even deliver them

My 2023 Q5 has the Kumho Crugen Premiums. They aren't the worst OE tires in the snow. We've had a couple of minor storms with about 3 to 5 inches of snow each. I didn't have any traction issues, but I think a lot of that has to do with the Quattro (ultra). I had a Volvo XC60 that came with some Continental tires, which were terrible in the snow. The Kumho tires perform better than those.

I am considering Pirelli Scorpion Weatheractives if I decide to upgrade.

I recant any statement regarding the Kumho Crugens that may have been considered "positive". 10k was being generous. The worst tires I've had in over 30 years of driving. The Crugens started behaving strangely after just 5k miles. It felt like there was no grip at times, like driving on ice skates. Wet weather and winter performance started to get noticeably worse.

My Q5 was at the dealership for some routine service, and I asked about getting new tires. The service manager wasn't surprised that I wanted to replace the Crugens so soon. I opted for a set of Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3's based on reviews at TireRack. They're far superior to the Crugens, but just about any tire would be.

I also replaced my Crugens early as one of them started to develop a slow leak. I decided to go the P Zero AS Plus 3 route instead of the Scorpion version.
