Continental Sport Contact 7 in RS6 spec

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am curious, has anyone been able to get hold of the new RS6 spec Sport Contact 7 that has been announced in the RS6/7 performance press release? I am reading excellent reviews for that tire, but the RS6 spec does not yet seem to be available on the market.

Haven't seen it though the normal tire shops, etc. I am sure your dealer can order since they will need to have availability to service cars that have flats, etc.

03130100000 is the continental PN, I am sure any decent tire shop that sells continental can special order as well.

I spoke to Audi Dealer today and they are on hold for supply only to meet demand for flats on new cars apparently. That will change once Conti get their act together but till then you can't go buy a set from them yet. What other tire would anyone recommend putting on the perf wheels?

I think I have a nail in one of the sport contact 7s on my '24 rs7 perf. I have the wheel/tire pkg. Dealer says they can't order that tire and that they switched back to Pirellis?? I just got my car with those tires OEM end of December '23..

Sounds like you are in for a new set of pirellis all around courtesy of the tire package

I have wheel/tire package and the fine print has a $maximum. If you get 4 tires replaced make sure you only lose credit for 1 not 4 tires!

The Continental Sport Contact 7 was pretty hard to get, but I just got a new set today (waited about 3-weeks for it).

My tire dealer backordered it for me and a set of 4 arrived today (that's all Continental had).

Haven't had a chance to break them in and test them out yet, but I'm looking forward to it!

Picked up the RS6 yesterday and it is wearing the Conti Sport Contact 7 tires.

Put on about 85 miles (mostly backroads with some highway) getting to know the car. Tires were very quiet, gripped as expected (didn’t “push” very much) and have zero complaints.

The Contis run narrower than the Pirellis for the same marked sizes.

Not according to TireRack. Of the the 3 OE Audi summer spec tires, the SC7, at 10.9”, has the widest thread when compared to the 10.2” of the PZ4 and 10.7” of the VS1EVO3.

The Conti's run WAY wider than the OEM Hankook's. It looks like it's 10mm wider despite being 285mm.

Conti's are definitely more quiet and comfortable AND the have way more grip. Win-Win-Win vs the Hankook's, which never should have come with the RS6 in the first place.

Hankook has come a long way, especially on their AO developed tires. I was in a Mercedes dealership the other day and a brand new $280k Maybach had factory fit MO Hankooks. So if those are factory fit for a Maybach you can bet they meet some pretty high specs and requirements.

When I was shopping for mine I drove several with both the OE Pirelli and the Hankooks. The Hankooks were far quieter and smoother than the pirellis for sure, at the expense of some steering feel. I also think the Hankooks have the best looking sidewall.

I have always liked the contisport in the AO/RO spec. My B9 Audi when the OE contis started to wear I went with the venerable PS4S; and it was a step back. I have learned there is def something to the AO/RO versions as they are spec'd for the car over the standard aftermarket versions. On our TTRS the old school P zero OEs are also better than the PS4S version.

I used to be a hands down Michelin tire guy, but lately I think the competition has caught up with them.

I had never before had any exposure to Hankooks. I have gone thru many sets of PS4S and thoroughly enjoyed their performance in both wet and dry. Hopefully I get Contis on my '25.

You will almost certainly get the Conti SC7s on your MY25. I'm definitely expecting them on mine.

The Contis are very quiet tires or there is still an insane amount sound deadening in the 24 models.
I was a bit surprised how little road noise they produce for their size.

The Contis are really quiet.... For reasons I had to replace 4 Contis with 4 PSS4's. The PSS4's were noticeably noisier than the Contis. The PSS4's are fine but I like the Contis better beyond just being quiet. The Contis fill out the rim better, the PSS4's look almost stretched. I'll probably be switching back to Contis before the PSS4's are completely done....

Interesting observations! I love Michelins and prefer the ride and handling. I avoid continentals because I had many issues getting them road force balance on several cars and had vibrations with them plus they flat spot easily especially the higher performance tires.

I think y'all are forgetting too that the contis have the sound absorbing foam inside; that alone will reduce tread noise all else being equal. Also note that Audi Spec (AO) tires specify lower noise levels as one of their criteria from baseline specs (other 2 are rolling resistance and mileage).

The reviews for the Conti SC7's beat the PSS4's almost across the board.

I'm personally a Michelin guy myself, but the PSS4's are so old now. When the PS5S comes out in these sizes, I'm sure it'll be better than the Conti SC7's. But for now, the Conti SC7's are the better overall tire.

Ive seen the real world reviews and they arent great. Many complaints of excessive tire wear, chopping etc. Plus continentals have high road force numbers (vibration issues) and its a hit and miss compared to the better quality control of Michelins.

Not that I'm rooting for any brand, but I'm confused on that site's rankings.

The Conti Sport Contact 7's topped the UUHP tire ranking from the same site referenced. https://www.tire-reviews.com/Article...-Tire-Test.htm

Sometimes it must be just luck of the draw.

I love the Michelin Cup 2's on my Porsche but hated the PSS4's on the same car. I'm hoping that the PSS5's are better than the 4's.

The Conti 7's were great but I didnt put enough milage on them to have an experienced opinion there. I thought I was going to hate the PSS4's but they have been just fine outside of the extra noise.

Isn’t this apples and oranges? Conti 7 is a high-performance summer tire with low temperature restriction, and PSS4 is an all season.

I also love Michelins. So far the Conti 7 (came on the 22s) are great. Very quiet. We bought a set of 21” “take-off wheels to use as winters, and decided to put all seasons on them since the reality is that if it’s really WINTER conditions, we’ll probably choose a different car. But the all seasons will allow us to drive year round with colder temps.
I’m taking a road trip tomorrow on the 22” with OEM conti7 and in a few weeks I’ll be on another trip and I think I’ll put the 21”s with PSS4 on to do a side by side and see how they are with noise. I don’t expect cold temps but at this time of year passing through central PA, up into Massachusetts and back across NYS it’s possible there could be some very cold mornings (but who knows with these crazy weather patterns). I think the summer tires would probably be fine, but I want to experience the 21 with PSS4 just to see the difference.

You need to be prudent how you interpret the result from that page you reference. Those results come from individual user ratings and not from direct comparison testing, meaning the comparative results need to be taken with a grain of salt. Further, the PS4S that scored high is the star spec BMW G8X spec tire, which is closer to a PSC2 in performance. The generic PS4S score lower in the user ratings. The link on the top right of that page goes to an actual comparison of summer performance tires and the SC7 beat the PS4S:

    https://www.tire-reviews.com/Article...-Tire-Test.htm

Other tests from reliable sources where the SC7 came out on top:

Yes, apples and oranges from the performance side. I was speaking to the fact that others have had issues with Conti's weird vibration that they couldn't get rid of. I had that experience multiple times with PSS4's. That's why I was afraid to put the PSS4's on my RS6. But this set has been fine. I like the Conti's much better from a performance and noise standpoint. The noise on the PSS4's is noticeably higher than the Conti's.

My wife and I took the RS6 from Vegas to San Diego a few months ago when it had the Conti's on it and it performed great. This is a great road trip car for sure!

I have a set of Conri 7 stock 22” tires off my new RS6. Just the 21 miles that were on the car when I bought it. Swapped on DWS 06 Plus all seasons. There is a post in the classifieds. Would love to see them go to another RS who is looking for summer only tires.
