I successfully updated the MMI software, VC software, enabled dual navigation, and updated my maps to 2024 last week.
Figured I’d create a write up for you guys.
Done on 2018 S5, H17 VC hardware version
.
Please make sure you have external power connected to stop the car from dying, this could result in bricking your MMI or VC.
This information is provided for educational purposes only. Any attempt to update or modify your car's system may carry risks, including the possibility of rendering components inoperable ("bricking"). Username and password for MIB solution if asked is guest for both.
Enable Dual Navigation (Map in the VC will still show when using Carplay for navigation):
1. You’ll need a windows computer and a SD card, formatted to FAT32. I used a 32GB MicroSD card with the adapter. (Not sure if MacOs will work, only tried on Windows.)
2. Download the MIB-Toolbox - https://github.com/Mr-MIBonk/M.I.B._...ncredible-Bash
3. Unzip the archive, go into the main folder of the downloaded archive and move everything inside of it onto the root of the SD card.
4. Plug the SD card into SD Card slot 1 in the car, in your glovebox.
5. On the MMI, go to the red engineering menu. Go to the main menu of the MMI, and hold the Nav/Map button up, and the Media button down for ~5 seconds. It might take you a couple tries, they both need to be pressed at the same time. This will bring up the engineering menu. You might be able to find a video on Youtube to help.
6. Click on update, standard, and then scroll to the bottom and hit update. The MMI will restart a few times.
7. You’ll get a pop up asking about starting a log update. Click on Cancel.
8. When the MMI reboots again, go into the green engineering menu. If it doesn’t come up, it may need to be enabled using OBD11 or VCDS. Installing the mib toolbox should automatically enable this. This menu is accessed by holding the Navi/Map button up, and holding the Media button up for about ~5 seconds. Opposite of what you need to press for the red engineering menu.
9. Scroll down to m.i.b and click, it’ll bring a small splash screen up. Scroll all the way down to the next page. Before doing anything, I highly suggest creating a backup, you can access this from the backup option.
10. To enable dual nav, go to navigation -> navactiveignore -> enable dual navigation
11. MMI will restart.
This will allow for dual navigation, this WILL NOT take directions into the VC, it will instead get rid of the compass that shows when you use navigation on carplay or android auto.
MMI and VC updates aren’t necessary unless there is an issue you’re trying to solve. For me, my carplay would glitch and send me back to the home screen after going in reverse, and my VC wouldn’t remember the last tab I had selected. Instead it would always change back to the fuel consumption page, with the update it will remember where I set it. It also solved an issue with music information from carplay, it would display the artist’s full name rather than the name on the song. For example, a Drake song would show me Aubrey Graham. The update fixed this and now shows me Drake.
This update works on MHI2Q MMIs, my VC is hardware number H17, you can check this with OBD11. You’ll have to see if yours is compatible. I can’t speak on if it is compatible with anything else. The MMI version can be checked from the red engineering menu -> Then version information.
MMI and VC firmware can be downloaded from here: https://mibsolution.one/#/1
MMI Update - Make sure you are downloading the right MMI version, check your version first and then download the updated one. If you’re MMI version is MHI2_ER_AUG22_xxx then you must download the firmware that is the same, the only part that will change is the ending. The latest version is MHI2Q_US_AUG22_P5087_MU1316 to my knowledge.
Do the MMI and VC updates at your own risk.
The update is done similarly to the MIB toolbox installation.
1. Download the file from mibsolution.one and put the contents onto an SD card, formatted the same way as used for the MIB toolbox.
2. Go into the red engineering menu, update, standard, and then scroll to the bottom and hit update.
3. There is an extra step of caution to be taken, if your car has the Bose system. I’m not aware which model has the bose system, but the website I got the instructions from warned against this. You do not want to update the amplifier. I have the B&O system, and updated without doing anything extra and my update was fine. Further information regarding this can be found here at the bottom: https://upgrademyaudi.net/tutorials/...mib2-firmware/
4. The install will go through itself, do not turn the car off and leave it connected to a power source.
5. When the car is asking for the log update, hit cancel.
6. Installation will be completed, the MMI may reboot one more time.
VC Update:
The VC update steps are the same as the MMI, you just need to put the VC files on the SD card. The file archive I downloaded from mibsolution is called AU_C1_AU491_0379_1310_xxxx_xxxx. This updates the VC to the latest version, 0379. This is useful when using the rainbow box in the car.
Map update:
You’ll have to use the MIB Toolbox to patch your FEC, since Audi only allows the cars to update to a certain year. Patching your FEC allows infinite updates.
You will need the MIB toolbox installed first.
You will need to download the patches depending on your MMI. The patches can be downloaded from here: https://mibsolution.one/wl/?id=ct7tZ...cHmPMm8pk1YYGa
The patch you need will depend on your MMI version. Go into the red engineering menu, and then version information. Find the patch in the archive that matches your version, and place the entire folder into the patches folder of the MIB toolbox SD card.
To patch the FEC:
1. Go into the green engineering menu
2. Scroll down to m.i.b and click
3. Scroll down to the next page.
4. There will be an option that says patch_ifs or something along the lines
5. Use the AIO patch to patch your FEC
6. MMI will reboot.
Now the maps are ready to install, maps can be found on mib solution. Make sure you’re using the right map for your location. NAR is the map for Canada, USA, and Mexico. The name of the maps files is P336_N60S5MIBH3_NAR_2023-2024. I have the 2024 maps, they’re just hard to host as the file is big. You can find the link posted in this forum thread https://www.audiworld.com/forums/q5-...ispreloading=1
To install the maps:
1. Put the contents of the new maps folder onto an SD card. You should see 2 folders called mib1 and mib2, and a couple of smaller files. These will go on the root of the SD card.
2. Go into the cars settings - not the red or green engineering menu. Go to settings, push the scroll wheel to the left, system maintenance, system update, sd card 1, and then start the update.
3. Update may take a while, depending on the speed of your SD card. Mine took about 25-30 minutes.
If you have any questions, leave a comment and I’ll try helping you. Once again, I would like to point out that doing any of this has the potential of bricking your VC or MMI, and will require a trip back to the dealership.

**If you're trying to exit the red engineering menu, restarting the MMI is the easiest way**
**There is a possible glitch when updating your VC firmware with the compass. Some people report that the compass will not show anymore after they update their firmware. The workaround is to enable the dual nav setting, so the compass never shows and you will instead have the map showing at all times.**
