What's the life of the stock Audi batteries?

My 2018 will be 6 years old this month. Wondering if I should replace the battery as a preventive measure. How long do these things normally last? I know on other cars and trucks I've had, 5 years was about the average before having to replace them.

We had the OEM battery in our S5 for a bit over 8 years before it suddenly died. If you have OBD11 (and I think other scan tools), you can check the state of the battery and get an idea of where it's at.

It’s often a function of how it’s used. Lots of highway, or lots of on/off (which is harder on the battery), spending time outside, etc. For example, on my B7 S4, bought new in 08, I’m on battery #3, and 174k. But on my B5 S4, the battery lasted 3.5 years, but 71k miles - given the miles, and the inexpensive nature of the battery, I was fine with that. My B9 S4 is now at 5 years old this week, but not even at 4K miles. It mainly spends time inside, with the battery just disconnected. I suspect it will need a battery done in the next 12 months or so.

8 years is usually a pretty good run, at least for the OEM batteries. even a nice aftermarket battery like an interstate or whatever, I'm lucky to ever get 4 years. I stick to the oem dealership batteries now.

maybe its a placebo, but ive noticed that my battery life significantly went down once i disabled their smart battery charging by unplugging the module on the negative terminal. debating on running some lithium on the next audi.

Going 5.5 years on my RS3 and 4.5 on SQ5. No sign either battery is low.

Very true. We got about 8 years out of the SQ5 battery as well, but we changed it as more of a precaution. We were going on a cross country trip and didn't want a battery to leave us stranded. The battery in our NB2 Miata is an O'Reilly branded one, and we already had to replace it once within 3 years.

The answer will vary a lot. Driving profile will be person specific but the most important. And comparing vehicles that use stop/start a lot vs those that don't even have the feature will vary widely. As well as if it's a standard tech (not in stop/start vehicles) or AGM tech battery. My MY09 2.0T AGM lasted 12 years, and wasn't changed because it went bad. Changed it while trying to chase down a charging system issue (turned out to be excess voltage drop in the cable from the alternator).
