8Y mods you've done that you couldn't live without now

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
As I anxiously wait on my '24 order next year q2/q3 like many others, i'm curious to hear about favorite mods people have done so far on their 8Y that they can't see themselves going back to stock after. Whether it's exhaust setups, intakes, cosmetics, and everything else in between.

Due to the fact that the ECU is not unlocked yet,

Here is what I have done, I’m waiting on and will do in the next 6 months:

    Done
    -Full PPF (looks beautiful)
-Smoked headlights (just a bit) and Taillights.
-Stealth PPF on the sunroof (maybe a hot take because you can’t look through it anymore but make the lights dim which is nice)
-Ceramic coating ( really makes a difference with maintenance and looks)
-Maxton design pro kit, give it a more aggressive look which is nice
    -MHC carbon spoiler, looks amazing
-Black badges because… black in black

    Waiting On aka in production
-Full Titanium exhaust (Valved with controller) and mid pipes (catless), from the video I got I sounds better than the Milltek.

    Future
    -Intake by IE
    -Turbo elbow by IE
-Intercooler by probably Iroz (rated for 1000hp and with channels)
-Wheel Spacers (12mm front, 15mm back)
    -H&R swaybars and end links
    -Unitronic Street Dogbone
-Maybe Kw suspension with mag ride delete

    Other stuff
There is a guy somewhere in here that wrapped the interior piano black trims of the dashboard with leather and looks amazing.

Square wheel setup with 265’s all around was a big exterior enhancer that I couldn’t go back from. Unitronic catted downpipe and mid pipes were a great mod that is not loud but gives the car great sound under WOT.IMG_6205.JPG

What year is your RS 3?

We're in Purcellville VA and our 2019 is now at 48,574 miles of which 34,852
miles have been fast country back roads on Rte 600 north of Winchester
10am - 2pm as weather permits, Tues, Weds and Thurs only when there
is typically no other vehicles on this route at all. Only changes have been
Michelin Pilot Sport 245/40/18 on 18-inch Neuspeed RSe10 wheels which
significantly improved our country back road performance at speed.

A truly great performance vehicle indeed, given my age of 83 and all the
years I have been making such country back road runs in many models,
mostly BMW's. Love the Audi as it has been a great vehicle indeed, given
all the various back road runs we've made in it to date.

My Photo Gallery has current pics.

My car is a daily/track car. I'm aiming for the best performance without really sacrificing much in terms of NVH. My mods are:

034 Rear Sway bar + end links
034 Rear Upper control arms (camber adjustment)
    034 Camster plates (fixed camber+caster)
    034 lug stud conversion
    Unitronic midpipes
    Rock guards
    18x9" square wheels
    Front PPF
    Ceramic coat
    TRE carbon spoiler
    Girodisc Rotors
    Brake pads

Alignment, 0 toe all around, about -2.7 camber front, -2.0 rear. RSB on stiff. I really like the setup on track.

    Coming: AWE switchpath exhaust

    Future?:
    Coilovers
    Bushings
    Splitter

For a daily, I'd say the only must haves for me would have been 18" wheels (quieter, cheaper, better ride), exhaust (stock is way to quiet, midpipes are not enough), rock guards, and some visual stuff. I did essentially did a build-your-own black optics pack with black PPF on the roof.
For the track, you can skip the midpipes and the rear upper control arms. Midpipes + AWE exhaust might be good, but the mid pipes on their own don't do it. Rear camber is adjustable enough without the control arms.
Camster plates are a slight noise increase, but not much. It would be offset with 18" wheels/tires that aren't super stiff track tires (mine are).

I think I'm still getting quite a bit of tire wear on track. Outside edge. Coilovers and/or bushings might be the way to fix that. I might have coilovers and a splitter already if I wouldn't be worried about scraping everywhere. Though I'd really want a functional splitter from a company like Aerofab.

@200audi I love seeing custom exhaust work, who is building that one for you if you don't mind me asking? I've seen the company Ticon and they seem to make quality parts.

I've put on the HG motorsport Bull X exhaust and absolutely love it. It's aggressive with the valve open and barley louder than stock with the valve closed. I've had a Milltek exhaust and a custom set up but Bull X is the best so far.

485 Design, they are out in Denver.

Weirdly enough I think they specialize in motorcycles, but have a thing for very specific Audis.

Their designs are super simple so looks amazing, and full Titanium.. sign me up, will post a thread once I get my exhaust.

Will this exhaust be a one-off, or do they plan on "mass" producing it?

EDIT: Nevermind. Should have followed their links first. Damn, that is a nice exhaust! Very interesting design and at a very competitive price. Can't wait for vids!

Handling is more neutral but still without any understeer. I have a 19mm rear swaybar I plan to put on before our next track day to stiffen up body roll a little.

I've got a 485 exhaust on my TT, looks like they've changed the valving control? It was not remote before and used the stock valve controllers. Those rattled after a time, they sent me new valve springs (from a domestic application that's similar to Audi), but not sure if they are going to work on earlier actuators, fix is a washer to rid the valve play. I think with more pressure of higher HP the stock Audi design doesn't work well. Otherwise the the whole 485 system is jewel like. Drone is mitigated with valves closed, but sounds great without a tinny or high pitched sound. Overall tone is deeper than stock. Day to day driving or being conscientious of sound this Ti exhaust is great. On a stock turbo (E85), with valves open you may get some low end depreciation until boost builds.

Damn.. that thing is night and day between valves open and valves closed. Not sure I'd need remote control. I wonder if this is a resonated version. It pretty much seems like valves open is a straight through muffler design.

It sounds amazing, looking forward to it, any drone?

Can the valves stay open even after you turn the car off or do they close (like stock)?

I actually don't have that valve controller currently on my car, or if it is I do not have the app. Nick has been trying out a few things with the valves as he was never able to get the stock valves to work properly. As far as the valve controller in the video, I do believe it stays in the mode you left it on. In the video linked earlier I want to say you're hearing it start in sport with the valves open.

I'll try and make a video getting some in car audio so you can get an idea of drone. It's not bad or anything, but I wouldn't say it's non existent either.

I did rubber mats and ceramic tint windows because I live in Arizona and it is a must to have a premium tint window. I also have tint on the windshield. I recently purchased a maintenance plan.. why? because if I take the car to the dealer 4 times for the for inspections it would have cost me more.

    8Y RS3 k&N filter ran 11.60@120.62 (ran 11.6 5 times and trapped 120+ several times)

Tires and wheels made a BIG IMPROVEMENT in our 2019 Audi RS 3 performance.

We're avid country back road users and the stock 19-inch wheels and tires that
came on our 2019 Audi RS 3 had some poor performance issues. New 18x8.5
alloy wheels and 245/40/18 Michelin AS3+ tires certainly improved our Audi's
performance on our favorite country back road runs we've been making
for 30 years in BMW's at 10am to 2pm as weather permits.

My Photo Gallery has info pics.

12/4/23 - Forgot to mention that new Michelin Sport All Season 4 245/40/18 tires
going on this week. The AS3+ are done at 48,574 miles, at 2 mm tread depth.

I'll try and make a video getting some in car audio so you can get an idea of drone. It's not bad or anything, but I wouldn't say it's non existent either.
I got my exhaust in Jan of this year. Yep, the stock valves are a PITA. Drone is about 1500-3K rpm depending on load. I can move quietly on lazy 25-45MPH roads, valves open or closed, just stay out of boost or pick a lower gear. A DP, mid pipes with stock exhaust will give some drone (not much). Highway at light throttle has very little drone, totally acceptable for a chill cruise (valves closed). Everyone's drone tolerance is different, I'm good with NVH in suspension, for me having valves is a must but the damn rattle is annoying. If I can't fix what I've got, I'll see if Nick can build a new back section with updated valves. If you're in the second half of life having a "quiet" Ti exhaust is a golden combination, combined with skipping out on the exhaust pops/bangs/crackles. Nick's work is superb, too bad it's under the car =)

just ordered one of those dividers, lack of storage space does really kill this car.

If you really like that set up - I have a set of forged wheels for sale in the classifieds - hub centric, takes the oem lug bolts, 9" all around, and +16 and +45 rear....

What did you do for alignment after the suspension mods? Audi wants a rediculous amount for alignment and coupl eother places I checked wouldn't do it because of all the ACC electronics and cameras etc.

I had no issues with my local alignment shop. Charged me about $180

I wouldn't even recommend going to the dealership for a track alignment. I'm not sure how much the electronics matter to be honest. I would find a good performance shop that can do a performance alignment. Give them the specs you want and have them get within .1 of those specs. It also cost me a bit under $200.
I always have had the presense message popup on track on occasion, even after turning it off, so no change there really.

Here are my interior mods the OP mentioned. I took inspiration from idcarparts on Insta and decided to do the job myself. Bought the OEM Dinamica material from https://apexleather.com/suede-1/ and wrapped the gloss black and side vent trim parts myself. The color ANTHRACITE matched the door card inserts perfectly. Pretty happy with the results.

Really looks amazing SVTunit. Saw your original post. Should start a side business with that. I recall one of the members here started the ClearMount cell phone bracket using the 8V 2 center vents. I bought a couple mounts from his firm. Was smart and practical. Don't have my 8Y yet (May 2024) but already know the trim around the gear selector is going to bug me. Wish Audi gave us some more interior trim options.
