Lightbulb Digital Matrix LED headlights adjustment and notches in light pattern

    Hello all,
I’ve been reading lots of posts, but this is my first here. I am a relatively new owner of a 2022 E-Tron Chornos edition Audi. So far this is one of the best cars I have owned. Simply awesome to drive. I have a couple of questions that I have not found answers to in regards to this model and these Digital Matrix lights. These are the ones that play the entry/exit projection of the Audi and E-Tron logos.

When I bought the car, slightly used, the passenger headlight was aimed very high and what I would consider “out of range” for the leveling motor. When turned on the left light would moved down and back up but the right light would only just move slightly. I took it to the dealer and clueless1 and clueless2 could not figure out the problem. At first they told me there was no problem even though my low beams were lighting up the tops of the trees. Then once I convinced them and they compared to another E-Tron the agreed to look at it. After having the car for 2 days they told me that they fixed it. Their “fix” was to adjust the other headlight to be just as high!

Losing all faith in this dealer I brought the car home and after about 1 hour I was able to resolve the problem by adjusting the “out of range” headlight up even higher with the grey adjustment screw in the back of the housing. I then turned the car on and off a couple of times and observed that right light was now moving down and up just as much as the left, but of course aimed very high at this point. I then turned the adjustment screw and very much to my surprise and delight, I was able to now adjust the headlight lower than before and now within the normal range!

My first question is that I have been reading that something needs to be done in the computer as well? Using the ODIS or VAGCOM interface? The headlights appear to me to now be correct, the dealer has NO clue how these things work so I don’t dare ask them about calibration. Is there something more I need to do at this point?

Thirdly, I looked in the owners manual but I don’t see an adjustment measurement for how high off the ground at 20 or 25 feet the top of the beam should be to be in proper adjustment. Does anyone know this figure? I have seen things like at 25 feet the beam should be 2” below the center of the resting headlight height.

Finally, With these Digital matrix lights, there are these two notches or shark fins in the low beam light projection. Does anyone know what these are intended for? Never having these types of lights, I am not sure exactly what to make of them. They do light up my lane out at a further distance than the oncoming lane which is nice.

Thanks all, I look forward to chatting with you all more.

That looks like a European Z-beam cutoff to me but I don't now how you adjust matrix headights to take best advantage of them. When I had that pattern with H4 lights I would adjust the lowest portion of the beam to be just below the centre of the lamp (guess that would be somewhat equivalent to your 2" below horizontal at 25 ft).

You could always set them then look back at them from a distance in a car park to see how much glare they generate.
