    8Y RS3 totaled?

Had the car for less than two months when a deer came out of the woods while I was on the interstate. All the airbags deployed. Tow driver said it would 100% be totaled but I'm hoping its fixable...thoughts? Insurance said they won't know until the end of the month.

Looks totaled to me. Usually when all the bags blow, it’s gone. Sorry man.

It's got a chance of not being totalled imo. Looks pretty cosmetic, other than the airbags deploying. It's a $60-70k car. Should be worth fixing.

The parts are so expensive for these cars ... based on that I doubt they will fix it ... also the Carfax would be brutual

I don't think that your car sustained that much damage at all. Very cosmetic, very superficial:

    1) passenger fender
    2) Hood
    3) Bumper
    4) Grill
    5) maybe the oil cooler
    6) passenger headlight
    7) airbags

Anyone that has done an intercooler will tell you that the bumper pops right out in a few minutes. Same thing with the grill. The fender is not hard to remove, the headlight is 3 bolts and once you have the front removed you can access everything. The hood is another easy one.
Obviously the airbags would have to be installed brand new and the dealer has the diagnosis tool to reset them.

I don't think based on the cost of the repair that your car would be totaled. There are people on YouTube that can fix things a lot worst, I mean, a lot worst. Samrac from YouTube has done S3s and other exotic cars from burnt to rollovers and everything.

Good luck with everything and keep your hopes high (I would). The car might lose some devaluation due to all airbags deployed and obviously the repairs but totally worth repairing it in my opinion.

    Glad you are ok.

If I was you I would hope it gets totaled because that thing will now have the kiss of death “accident - air bags deployed” on the Carfax…..

Glad you are good! I'm with 01turbo30v on this one, I would be hoping it's totaled. It would kill your resale value with a bad carfax like that.

Yea but you can’t get the parts. Insurance will total. It’ll be up on copart in January, bet it gets 20k though.

You won't want that car back. Sorry this happened and wish you luck finding another one after insurance pay out.

Thanks for the input everyone. I had it towed to the only Audi certified collision center in the area (luckily only 11 miles away). I think most of you are right it will be totaled but it seems crazy when so much of the car is in perfect condition.

When I poked my head in the grill it looked like the radiator and intercooler were ok just the oil cooler on the passenger side was damaged and leaking.

I don't think it would be totaled without frame damage.

Been totaling these because you can't get parts. Maybe that is better, but for the last 2 years any damage to front bumper or front fenders and it was a part out. Crazy, probably why my insurance has doubled.

Damn... I did wonder why this car is going to add $1,600 to my annual premiums. I mean, 400hp in a sedan really isn't out of the ordinary these days.

Other factors such as cost to repair this car and the amount of claims on this particular model also play into the rate. For example my Toyota Supra is almost half the cost of insurance probably because there are probably a very low number of claims on this car over the past 10 years.

This really has nothing to do with how modern rates are determined. Neither does msrp of the car as it’s a fairly wide range.

It’s all about claims paid for a given model for most carriers.

Glad you're OK and very sorry for the incident. As your car is being totaled, it will clearly become a parts donor for other RS3s. Audi will get more for the parts individually than a solid, complete car I would imagine. Hope you're able to get into another one eventually. Deer can be brutal for sure.

Right? Audi has nothing to do with this or parting out the car. This is all on insurance and what they decide to do. Sucks for OP, very likely that it will be totaled but that is totally up to his insurance company.

It doesn't look too bad and I'm sure there is plenty of damage underneath. Usually the air bags deploying is the tipping point.

Understood. I was sort of relating your situation to one we had with my wife's Subaru Tribeca a few years back but this situation is different. Insurance didn't actually total our car in that situation but the Subaru repair center said it would never be correct. Massive rear end damage from a 'distracted' driver. So we technically traded the Subaru for a new Audi Q5; Subaru and Audi dealership. I know for a fact the dealership was going to part the car out. Only had 10K miles and everything forward of the rear seats was perfect still. Didn't consider the insurance company will technically be the owners of this RS3. Again, sorry this happened to the OP.

Its more than likely totaled but ask what the buyback is and if you aren't interested in fixing it sell it to one of us for the buyback price so we can keep it on the road.

It'll be on copart or iaai. Extra fee's if you aren't a dealer though, and the fee's are pretty substantial so bid appropriately.

Yeah I am tempted. It could make a great cheap track car for someone.

On another note, I still have the stock summer tires in my garage..is there a market for those in the classified section or do people generally think they're trash?

Sorry man, glad you're OK. Not sure what to make of the Bridgestones I have, I don't think they're that great. Would like to go with the PS4S but it's just a waste to throw out the OEMs. I bet you could sell yours though.

The Bridgestones that came on the 8Y were light years better than the Pirellis that came on my old 8V RS3. The Bridgestones are a decent tire but the Michelins are still the gold standard imo.

    bsinc42,
Yes, good news indeed. Where in NH are you?

I am a Laconia boy but left NH many years ago and
now in Purcellville VA, retired from the Xerox Training
Center in Leesburg VA which is now something else.
Purcellville is about 15 miles west of Leesburg.

My Photo Gallery has Audi RS 3 pictures.

^^ this, because it will have the kiss of death for resale/trade in on the carfax “accident - air bags deployed”

I hope they can get all the components needed to fix in a reasonable amount of time.

Might just have to keep it forever 😉

Well those of you that said copart were right all along. After teardown they amended the repair quote and insurance totaled it. Bummer it took so long just to find out but at least insurance is giving me what I paid for it.

Good to hear that you are getting a good cash amount. I've read about too many such
issues where the out come was not a fair settlement at all. Good to see that your's is
a good settlement. Will you be buying another RS 3, or something different?

Purchase on COPART for 42K, start a Youtube channel and sink another 24K into it, Do a cost breakdown that is equal to MSRP of new, but now you have a salvage title car.... Profit??? Eh? Perhaps. : )
