Latest ECS horror story.

- Placed an order on Aug 12.

- No word from ECS until Oct 13. Email from ECS reads..
"There was an error processing your payment method. Please contact our Billing Department, do not resubmit your order. Simply reply to this email or call the Billing Department to resolve the issue"

- I replied and reissues the payment.

- Oct 16 I received another email from ECS...
"Hello,
Looks like we made an error, the Spyder Constant Full-Zip - Mens Small you ordered was missing from shelf when we went to pick your order. We will have to reorder a replacement and expect to have it by November 2
We're very sorry for the inconvenience. Please let us know if you have any questions. Talk to you soon. "

- Oct 31 I received another email from ECS...
"Hello,
I am reaching out about your past order for the audi pullover it looks like Audi has changed the price on this since we last ordered it the new price is linked below, let me know if you still wanted to order this item as the price has changed."

- They were requesting 4x what I had already paid for (twice).

- I did a live chat with them on Nov 3.

They said it was not there problem and I would have to pay 4x if I wanted the items. I was not happy and they refunded my order after refusing to allow a manager to review the order.

- At the end of the conversation was the worst of it though.

" sir this is over a sub 200 dollar order , i hope you find something in life that makes you happy because this is out of proportion to the situation , have a wonderful say and a great weekend this chat will be closing in 10 seconds

To say that because my order was not of a great value that I was not important enough to be brought to a managers attention is despicable.

ECS I am done with you and all of you should be done with them as well.

Wow that sounds painful. I had two of the "carbon fiber" ECU covers have the clear coat go all cloudy on me.

They did send new ones but that was a couple of years ago.

I thought everyone knew about ECS. There FB groups dedicated to horror stories about them and there have been articles on Autoblog and Jalopnik about them too.

While I am aware of all of the horror stories people have about them I only order basic stuff from them like oil change kits and have never had a problem. And their free shipping only ever takes a day or 3 to get to me. /shrug

My last order was in September for an oil change kit for my SQ5 and I also ordered the 034 oil filter housing. After I placed the order I saw that the housing was on sale at 034's site. I contacted ECS chat and they very promptly refunded me the difference to match the sale price.

I've gotten a couple of the wrong parts from them before. Close to what I ordered but very clearly not the correct ones. I also only ever order pretty basic stuff from them. Customer service has always been good though so that last comment is a bit surprising.

Generally support reps shouldn't be rude, it's part of the job even if a customer is upset. However, you can't just post a quote like that and call the person out and not post the rest of the transcript. Personally I've bought thousands of dollars worth of stuff from ECS without major issues. A delayed item here and there, but nothing like this.

I typically buy most parts from FCPEuro but have a search method that involves ECS.

I look up all parts via ECS because they do a better job at categorizing. I then copy the manufacture part numbers and paste them to the FCP search bar. I have success with this 90% of the time. Plus FCP typically has better deals too on top of lifetime warranties.

Owning a B5 S4 has helped my research game out quite a bit too. lol

Sorry to hear about that experience from the OP. Customer service can be rough these days.

Yea, while I agree that no CS rep should be that rude there is absolutely no way that rep escalated to that without provocation from the OP.

This is common with carbon fiber. You really should have a body shop sand and actually clear any carbon fiber part no matter who you order it from. The gel coats are garbage. There is zero heat or UV resistance to them.

Not if they refund him. The original item at the original listed price was no longer available. He got his money back, he is not financially harmed, and unless he passed up the opportunity to get that same item at the original price, and no longer can, he has not suffered any damages. He may not be happy, but thats not a trigger for legal breaking of a contract. They didn’t prevent him from getting that item for that price because nobody could get that item for that price.

Oh, it’s definitely not good form from a customer service standpoint. Though from what it sounds like, the OP didn’t do himself any favors when it comes to the rep potentially wanting to go above and beyond for him.

I always get better service, and results, by being kind and understanding while still escalating.

Under the "benefit of the bargain" the customer is actually entitled to the price difference on TOP of what he originally paid, since ECS broke their contract. Simply refunding the money is insufficient. Crazy. Again, not a lawyer... I just read stuff.

If ECS had simply not processed the payment, they could have gotten away with just apologizing. But taking his money.. They owe him the product or the difference in value between his refund and whatever he was purchasing. At least that's how I am interpreting this.
