    B9 S5 Downpipe Install

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

Recently purchased the IE Downpipe for my S5, and debating between doing it myself or bringing to a shop. Install looks straight forward, aside from the 2 hard to get bolts.

Any advice on the install in general?

Also, what should I look for as far as install costs for a job like this?

    Thanks!

If you can get the front end up in the air, just do that and pull off the front 2 shields. It makes the job much easier, assuming you don’t have tree trunks for hands and arms as it’s a bit of a tight fit.

Four of the six bolts can be reached and completely loosened from above. The remaining two, one on each side, I needed to get from below after disconnecting the downpipe from the hanger. IMO an S-wrench is the key tool here - I was able to get it all done with it and maybe a stubby IIRC, but did not need any socket/wobble/extension setups as some folks did. Whatever works!

It’s doable no problem on your own. I have quite a bit of experience, but it was not that tough compared to others I’ve done.

Agreed. It is an absolute cakewalk compared to the B8.5.

Hit the bolts with penetrating oil. Mine were very hard to get started.

I ordered a C ratchet wrench that I thought would work better than an S wrench but they shipped me the wrong size so I did end up using an S wrench. I still think the C shape would have been easier to get better leverage on.
