    Question about turbo inlet pipes

First post. Glad to be here.

I’ve been looking at a new turbo inlet pipe since I’ve done the intake on my car. I’ve gone with 034 on everything aside from the midpipes so far and they’ve been great! But I’ve seen some actual dyno numbers from unitronic’s 4” inlet but nothing on 034’s site but they also sell one . My question; is there really a $200 difference in this 1’ long piece of pipe? I know I’m splitting hairs, but I’m genuinely curious as to whether or not there is any performance difference in these two products. Thanks for your time!

I think the uni pipe comes with the silicon tube for the wastegate. I don't think the 034 does. I figure they have a solution but its different.

I don't think they are that much different... definitely not with to extra $200

If you you don't plans on upgrading the turbo you can get 4" from CTS or IE 3"

I know there are slight differences on top end power between 3'' and 4'' inlets, however comparing 4'' inlets to each other I'm sure the power differences are negligible. I have the 034 4'' inlet and its great, it also has adapters available for future turbo upgrades.

I appreciate it but I think I’m going to go with the 4”

The size of the turbo inlet only really matters on these cars because of the absurd angle changes it has to go through to get into the turbo itself combined with how small the actual turbo compressor inlet is, which is around 2.5". Yes, you'll notice a small difference in measurable power between a 3" and 4" inlet provided that this was a restriction in your system. Meaning, if the turbo was not getting sufficient air flow for optimal performance, the inlet could make a difference assuming that there are no restrictions prior to that, specifically from the CAI and filter itself. It's less of an issue on turbocharged cars as it is on positive displacement supercharged cars but, the way the air comes into the turbo is still pretty important. Personally, I loathe the stock configuration and think it's one of the most inefficient designs ever. Once you start making over 600whp, a turbo inlet of at least 4" in diameter should be a must. At that point, you're pulling in significantly more CFM than the stock turbo would have.

I don't think you'll notice any disernible power differences between the various 4" turbo inlets. I will say the finishing of the castings are better on some brands compared to others. Other thing to consider is if you plan on upgrading turbos in the future and which turbo inlets offer the adapter rings needed for your potential future turbo upgrade. I personally used the APR 4" turbo inlet on my former 8V RS3 and thought it was a nicely casted piece and there were zero issues with installing it. The flanges were machined perfectly and fitment/finish was great.
