Got into the car today and after starting it up, Christmas lights came on earlier this year: Traction Control, Parking Brake Malfunction, Stabilization Control ESC/ABS Fault, Headlight range control defective.

Connected VCDS and got these codes:

So it could be the front left ABS sensor, but then why all the other errors? Related/dependent? If this is caused by a weak battery (this is 2016 A4), why the battery energy management system is not on in the logs? I'm charging the battery now just to eliminate that as the cause (weird as the car was just driven with over 300km in the last few days so the battery would get charged).

I see a lot of posts on this, from an actually bad ABS sensor, a short in the wire harness, broken/dirty magnetic ring, bad ABS module... to a bad battery.

I'm going to take a look at the sensor/wiring shortly, was hopping to hear some feedback from those who had to deal with this issue, before I start ordering parts.

    Thanx!

The rest of the errors, because that's how the stuff was designed. They are designed to create flags when they might have issues performing their tasks, but the root issue is not that module but a problem in another module. Specifically designed to make techs stop blind replacing modules that aren't broken.

Looked at the wiring, nothing suspicious, checked the battery, should last a bit longer...

Looked at live data, no input from G47:

    ABS Live Data.png

So it looks like it's the ABS front left sensor. I measured it's resistance, it was showing 4.5 ohms (looking to check what the value should be). Could not remove it, did some WD40 on it, would not budge - what is the best way to get it out? Pull on it? Twist it out? Maybe apply some heat on the housing?

My only concern is why did it trigger headlight range control, are these component interconnected/dependent on the ABS sensor?

Does anybody know a good replacement PN or OEM is the only way to go here?

Front left and rear right are the same. If you're still troubleshooting you can swap them around to isolate.

I bought these for my B8 (2010) Avant:

All sensors are the same, it's the connector stems that are molded different to angle the connector away from the brake rotor.

Good luck getting them out in one piece. I broke all 4 of mine when I did my wheel bearings trying to get them out. Bought all new ones.

If the sensor ohms correctly, it could also be your wheel bearing that went bad as its not picking up the pulses in the bearing.

I'd love to swap them, but once they are in, the only way out is in pieces. I'm looking at the possible failure reasons in the Ross-Tech Wiki and hope it's the sensor itself:

00283 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Front Left (G47): Electrical Fault in Circuit
00283 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Front Left (G47): Open or Short to Plus
00283 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Front Left (G47): Signal Outside Specifications
00283 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor Front Left (G47): Mechanical Malfunction

If it was the magnetic ring or some dirt it would most likely show either "Signal Outside Specifications" or "Mechanical Malfunction". A shorted/damaged wire harness would show "Open or Short to Plus". I will measure the resistance of the sensor from rear right and most likely will order a new one. Getting out will be the scary part, I watched some videos on people drilling them out and putting a screw in to pull them out or crewing in a red-hot screw into it and then pulling out. If anything goes wrong, it will be a major pain.

I should be able to just connect the new one and clear the errors before trying to swap it to see if that makes any difference.

    Update:

Checked a local Audi dealer for 4E0927803F sensor: $ 188.37 CAD. Got the same BOSCH part from germanparts.ca for $38.60.

Before I attempted to remove the old sensor, I quickly disconnected it and connected the new one, cleared all codes to make sure it is indeed the sensor that is the issue - no errors returned.

Now was the hard part. The damn thing would not move, I soaked it for hours in WD40. After pulling and pulling ...it finally broke off. Had to drill a hole, put a screw in and pull it out in pieces (what a nightmare!). It could be worse though.

Did a live data check, took it for a drive. Problem solved.

Nice man! Happy you got it resolved!

I think I mentioned earlier, you can't get those sensors out once in and with some good mileage on them. They just break. I've had to drill out the pickup in the bore many times. Use a file to deburr the bore, little bit of all purpose oil and the new one slides right in.

Good lord...I've never seen any sensors come out like this.

    Glad you got it fixed!

I've never seen these sensors like this. I have a B8, a B8.5, a Q7, and worked on quite a few others and never had a problem moving them around. I wonder if it's a "weather" thing...I live in AZ and my cars rarely see rain let alone snow or even a cold day, really.

100% it's a climate thing lol. Northern states with salt and corrosion, this happens. Warm weather states, you have it easy. Lol
