What is the resale value on a modded RS3?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was told to go on here instead of asking the Reddit sub since you guys are more knowledgeable here .
    Bought an Audi rs3 , stage 3 2020 with 19k miles .
The car was being sold as is with no warranty by the dealership because of the mods on the car (the guy that sold it to the dealer modded the heck out of it)
The car was sold for 56k but out the door, it was at around 60k but I did put 20k down, so financed 40k.

Ultimately, I am thinking of selling since I dont know what could come with a modded car. I have attached pics of the modifications that have been done. I realize that this was an impulsive decision but im here now and looking to see if I got fleeced or if this is somewaht of an ok deal.

Or, what can I do to find out if this car is good? What questions can i ask a dealer to find out if this car is currently good to go or if its seconds from blowing up lol.381651928_2183353308537365_3599121268838896823_n.jpg381512541_2183353281870701_3178705485287086658_n.jpg382446715_2183353245204038_7036730281798368524_n.jpg382476086_2183353258537370_1751181593328939070_n.jpg

Resale value is such a subjective thing. Because for example none of those mods raised the value for a dealership when they are buying. They go by the stupid Kelly blue book. But at the time of them selling it you bet that the price will go up and they will create value on all the moods. 100% they bought it for way less than what they sell it to you.

But alas provided the car was well maintained by previous owners and you continued to do so...it should be a great car. The mods list are good quality parts. And compared to some RS3 builds is not that wildly modded.

Your car is on Unitronic Tuned.

You may want to contact them and they can give you info on the tune.

I say keep it and enjoy it. Just stay on top of your maintenance and you'll be fine.

Should i be worried that the guy was willing to sell it to the dealership for significantly less? For example, why would he sell it for significantly less unless he knew that there was a problem with it? Just logically speaking, what would be your gut feeling on something like this ?

    you got implused

and why would you ask questions now. the deal is done. that should have been done before the "as is deal" finished.

My reasoning is since its already a done deal, does it make since to get rid of it asap or get it checked out at a shop before continuing to drive it. At this point I think im looking to cut my losses :/

You have a stock block and an aftermarket turbo. A lot of people would tell you to build the engine if you are going to upgrade the turbo. Stage 2 e85 cars (oem turbo, stock block) have blown up. Could be the old owner realized that and didn't want to pay for a build. Could be he gambled and something went wrong so he sold to dealer. When you drive it make sure you don't over do it (I.e. Probably no launching, make sure it's warm before wot, don't go wot at low rpm, and probably a lot more stuff).

I don't think that price is outrageous. You can go through the classifieds on audizine to compare to what others are asking / have sold for.

I wouldn't be worried. It's just the way things work. Many Yrs ago I worked at a motorcycle dealership and learn a lot. You will come with a trade and I will offer you $1,200. You get the new bike. I keep your bike. 2 weeks later we are selling your bike for $6,500 making a $5,300 profit for example. Is it fair Nope but is legal. If car dealerships are same as bike dealerships, they don't make much money of brand new vehicles. They make the real money out of used ones.

There's many reasons why someone would get rid of a car without talking to the owner is everyone guess. Maybe the owner got bored I don't understand that kind of people but it happens, maybe his family situation changed and needed something bigger. Maybe it was a extra toy. Who knows...but likely the owner got a different car if it was a trade. So the needs change.

I wouldn't be worried. I mean your car is running fine right? No codes, no cells. If it gives you peace of mind make a service, engine oil change, haldex fluid change, front and rear diff fluid change, dsg fluid service. Sparkplugs and coils. And enjoy it.

Seriously I would keep it and enjoy it. It's a great car. Nothing beats the 5cyl sound.

Contact Unitronic or find a authorize Unitronic shop near you. They can check what tune you have. And since you are the new owner now...you could potentially detune it if you fancy.

oh wow. you got a cel code. that's interesting. how long have you had it? how many miles did you put on it after the purchase?

it seems like this might be a money pit.

also, since car prices are starting to drop, many deals will be coming up in the car market.

I feel like you have a case for a refund. the cel if not deleted or cleared out might help show that the car was sold under wrong pretenses. if I remember, cel codes have dates and time. sold as is might not be as is as they thought as it was when you were advertised about it.

if i were you, i would look forward to these two options.

    1. get a full refund. you were sold on a car that was not presented to you properly and the sold as is would be a great indicator of falsehood. cars a little different when it comes to sold as is at a dealership. they have more liability than the public is aware of.

    2. if you really like the car, after you present the falsehood, allow them to give you a full refund or offer you a partial refund. so lets say about $20k back and not a penny less. cause you could take them to court for the full refund and any court costs.

not passing emissions is a pretty big deal now a days.

Went to a performance tuning shop that checked the error code. Turns out it had to something to do with the fuel being too rich? Specialist told me that our fuel in our area sucks and to just get e85 and should be good. He checked everything else and thinks I got a good deal.

first of all, why does everyone keep saying take it to a unitronic dealer. It has a unitronic transmission tune. that’s it.

it has a DS1 TUNE. contact DS and start sending them logs asap before you do anything with this car especially before putting 85% ethanol into a car that has a tune designed for no more than 60%

and yes, you basically got robbed. used stage 3 isn’t worth anything. a built block is though. not sure what you expected to happen when going car shopping at a used car lot.

Can he run the car with the bigger turbo on the stock tune?

He will get a check engine light for the catless downpipe, but that’s nothing to worry about.

Listen to gunmarrr. DS1 doesn't offer OTS tunes beyond stage 2 so prior owner had a custom tune. Would be good to figure out who and ask questions. Max E60 sounds like prior owner skimped on fuel pump upgrades so like gunmarr said, be careful with full e85 (who knows how close you should go to advertised E60).

Check engine light for fuel being too rich on a flex fuel tune is a red flag. Flex fuel is supposed to mean tune adjusts for the type of fuel you are using. DS1 OTS Flex Fuel works great and wouldn't throw a code so "why" is a question for whoever the tuner is.

You can see plenty of RS3 asking $55kish stock or stage 2. Dealer would give me $40-45k for my 19 RS3 assuming it's stock. Assuming no damage, the right buyer would value the aftermarket turbo. You could always buy the stock turbo, install it, flash ds1 to the OTS stage 2 map and sell the car that way (and sell the aftermarket turbo separately). Not ideal but an option if you can't sell as is.

But overall, be careful driving the car. There is clearly a ton that you don't know that you should know. Folks have blown up not built engines at stage 2 and beyond. Read unitronics warnings for their stage 3 tune and the requirements for some supporting fuel pump mods (different turbo but similarish power). I'd be careful trusting folks who say it's good to go unless they have a car running e85 blend to E60 on a stock block with an IMS 750. The Iroz site does say the 750 can be utilized with a stock motor but I'd probably make sure you can afford an engine replacement if you are gonna gamble. They clearly to state to maximize the turbos performance you need to build the motor.

    https://www.getunitronic.com/ecu-tun...-2019-stage3bt

Unitronic strongly urges its Stage 3 ECU Performance Software calibrations to be utilized together with a built engine/fortified bottom end

Lastly, Iroz is someone else you can call to try to get more information. https://irozmotorsport.com/product/ims-750hs-hybrid/
