    Question Floor Jack recommendations

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello!

I was hoping some fellow 4.0t owners could offer some advice? I have a two ton floor Jack I have used for my old B9 S4, obviously my D4 S8 weighs a lot more and I was curious what tonnage and type of jacks everyone uses for their C7-7.5?

Googling 2 ton jacks/stands on a three ton vehicle yields the standard response ’yes it is fine’ to ‘you will die’. My Jack stands are two ton as well. I need to take the front wheels off and refinish the calipers (one side at a time to be safe).

I did post up on audiworld on their D4 section (since AZ’s is pretty dead), but nothing helpful or non douchey as a reply. Haha.

I use a Harbor Freight 1.5 ton (3000 lb) racing jack on my C7.5 often enough. My jack stands are also the HF 1.5 ton ones too. Since I'm not trying to jack the entire car up a single jack, it is fine and I have no worries. If I was just going to put it up on jack stands, I'd jack up on a pinch weld, remove the belly pan, and then lift at the rear of the front subframe (with block of wood) to insert the jack stands. Lift on the trunk pan with block of wood to put rear jack stands.

Your D4 is not 3 tons. It's less than 2.5 tons. Your 2-ton jack stands may be rated 2 tons per pair, so 2 pairs for the car should be fine.

If you intend to more work and have a garage, I'd recommend getting a Quickjack. I have the 5000 SLX and it barely fits the C7, so def too short for the D4 in normal form. Maybe one with extended lift points and/or 6000/7000 lb capacity would be smart.

Perfect! Thank you! As far as the 3 tons, I was using GVWR instead of curb. Figured better to over estimate than under and get squished.

If you are just lifting one corner, it's not the entire weight of the car, so a 2-ton is fine. I also use a HF racing jack when I need to get one wheel off. But, I try to use a jack stand (or other type of support) in addition to anything hydraulic when possible. You never know when you'll spring a leak...

For what it's worth, Costco currently has these on sale bundled with what look like some support adapters. The 5000TL is $1,400 and the 7000TL is $1,600. Shipping in continental US included; sales tax extra.

HF 3T low profile works very well with these cars. I prefer my jackstands over anything else. The quick jacks look sweet but limits access to the underside of the vehicle. You would have to get under from the back or front only. Can’t go in from the side.
