APR Exhaust System for the Audi RS3 (8Y)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

The APR Catback Exhaust System personalizes your vehicle’s looks, sound and performance. Beautifully hand-crafted T304-stainless-steel components adorn the system with stunning TIG-welding throughout. Our straight-through brushed-finished mufflers smooth the exhaust note to a deep growl, without adding restrictions or rasp. Strong high-quality bracketry and OEM-style clamps hold the system steadily in place, making the install or removal a snap, and fitment simple, yet precise. Dual 2.5” mandrel-bent exhaust paths provide an ultra-smooth path, steadily feeding exhaust gasses out of the quad exit system, while looking tidy from under the rear bumper. Our cast valve housings enable the vehicle to be fitted with the factory electronic valve actuators, retaining OEM valve operation for variable sound levels. Finally, our quad exit exhaust tubes exit the system into the beautiful factory RS bumper integrated exhaust tips.

    Overview:
The factory exhaust system starts life as a dual tube setup but then converges to a single tube before entering a suitcase style muffler. Our system uses dual 63.5mm piping with no mid mufflers or resonators, and continues all the way to our large sound absorption rear muffler. The cross sectional area of our dual setup is 26% larger than stock! There the system splits to a quad 63.5mm design. Internally the valved path is straight through with no muffling, while the unvalved path is perforated for sound level reduction. This exits the rear into the factory integrated exhaust tips.

    Well this is super exciting!!!

Question, on the valved straight through section, is it truly straight through with no perforations? Or is it still perforated like the 8V version? Is there a cutaway view or rendering you can share? Ready to buy this today for sure.

The open path has a long perf section. The valved path has a short perf section.

Priced very well, this might win me over versus the Milltek if it sounds as good as it looks.

Is it me or do I not hear a big difference between valves open and closed?

It seems too muted and muffled with the valves open. That open and raw noise I like from these cars doesn't seem to be there. It's too close to stock.

I wanted more than stock but nothing crazy, this should work and I like the design (plus reasonable price)

It's early yet, but so far I like it - deep tone, a little louder (nice sound on throttle) but not at all obnoxious and neighborhood friendly

    Any highway drone?

In comfort mode it's similar to stock, I'd describe it as a murmur, not intrusive at all. In dynamic sport there is some drone, so if you're sensitive to that, it's probably not for you. You're primarily installing a cat back for sound so it's more personal preference. APR is more bassy, AWE seems to be a little more of sharp, higher pitch tone (plus louder, it's straight through in valves open mode). I prefer the APR design which retains stock position and function of the valves and I don't want straight pipe in any mode

Got mine put on yesterday, luckily it's unusually warm here right now so i drove a bit with the windows down. In automatic mode, there's no drone, the pitch is different and it's slightly louder, but cool for all my neighbors. Even with valves open it's not super loud, but sounds great when you give it throttle. For the price there's no complaints.

Midpipes might change that, i'll probably try some in a few months when it warms up.

Would love to hear audio of this exhaust with mid-pipes.

Even with mid-pipes installed on my 8Y, I'm super let-down by the lack of sound from the sports exhaust, which I think could also have to do with the factory valve programming. The valves seem to stay shut or partially remain shut unless you are WOT over say 4K rpm. The 8V sports exhaust with mid-pipes was perfect IMO.
