Vibration when in reverse or drive. Help!

B8 S4 dsg: So the vibration occurs when the car is in reverse or drive as I release the brakes and let the car roll, vibrates and shakes like as if i have a dent or wheel bent. Thats how it feels like. But when the speed increases, the vibration is less noticeable. Assuming it was a bad engine mount, today, I had the engine mounts replaced with 034 street mounts. Vibration decreased by about 50% but still exists. Dsg sounds a little clunky. Can this be the dsg or maybe the drive shaft bearing carrier? Trans mount and the metal insert replaced with 034 prior to engine mount. Car is stage 2 IE and trans tune. Any ideas?

When’s the last time you did the DSG service for fluid and filter? How long have you had the car? When did this start? More details would help.

Ya we need way more details, whats the mile age? def when was the dsg filter/fluid replaced? if it has been more than 30,000miles go ahead and change it out and do a full clutch recalibration/adaptation to the dsg. Reverse gear has always been clunky with B8 models with the Gen 1 and even the 1.5 DL501. My 2011 seemed to take forever to engage from park or drive to reverse and never felt smooth. But from what you are describing it sound like possible clutch slippage. When you describe it as a vibration where exactly do you feel it? through the body or steering column or shifter linkage? Or is it more of a juddering back and forth from the drive line vs vibration?

Just FYI, EPL’s DSG tune ironed out every single niggle my DSG had and it’s a 2010 first year model. No delays like you’re describing and super smooth. I can’t speak for other tuner’s DSG tunes, but I’ve been super happy with EPL’s revisions for over 170k miles. Audi’s stock calibrations have always been shit in my opinion, no matter what version or revision of hardware/software you had. Stock sucks ass.

Yea I had an IE stage 1 ecu/tcu and it definitely smoothed out the dsg clutch engagement points and reverse to some degree, but it still was a bit clunky and slow shifting into R. Doing the dsg calobration/adaptation did seem to help a good bit with the reverse issue after I had changed the filter and fluid.

I did the DSG service for the fluid and filter change about 145K miles ago, car currently sitting at 158K. I did the dsg/clutch adaptation with Rosstech as well. I had the car for 3 1/2 years now and the problem started about last month (roughly 2000 miles ago). I know I have a bad flex pipe where it rattles the middle resonators and creates some vibration and rattle noise but not sure if this is the culprit to my problem. It just vibrates on initial roll (on reverse and forward) when I release the brake slightly. The shop told me it feels like clutch chatter and to just change out the transmission (because he was too lazy to find the problem...lol). I had clutch slippage when I tuned the car to IE stage 1 but then I got the transmission tune and that fixed the problem right away. I don't drive the car hard at all and I don't do launches but about 5000 miles ago@153K, I went stage 2 single pulley ratio due to the lower pulley exploding on me and tore all the belts. Can the stage 2 tune with more torque wear out the existing clutch slippage maybe? I'm just guessing at this point. I changed out all the mounts too, still have this stupid vibration on initial roll. It really does feel like clutch chatter as if I am not giving it enough gas when releasing a clutch on a manual car.

Check the center prop shaft and see if there’s any wackiness with that at all. You could always put it up on a lift or 4 jacks and make sure it’s super sturdy and then put it drive and see if you see any vibration as you slowly get the wheels rolling with it up in the air.

I also suspected the center shaft bearing carrier as well. I will check tomorrow and update.

If it’s only during initial roll out during clutch engagement it’s probably the clutch pack. I’ve had a dsg car in the past that did this. It was a 2018 A3 with 36k. I traded the car because Audi would not cover it. They referred to it as a comfort issue and there was nothing wrong with it lol.

Like I said if it’s only during roll out it’s probably the clutch pack. Once the clutch pack fully engages the feeling will be gone. If it were anything else you would feel it afterwards as well.

I was hoping it wasn't the clutch pack lol. But yea, the vibration is only on initial roll. I don't feel like it affects the performance or feel anything clutch slipping. It really does feel like clutch chatter though only on initial roll (forward or reverse).
