Question MK3 TTRS exhaust options in cabin sound/volume

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I am looking at catback options and want to know about these things.

    • In Cabin Volume
How much louder is it in cabin vs Stock Sports Exhaust. Windows up vs Down
    • Sound Profile / Pitch
What is the sound like? Bassy? Raspy?
    • Drone
How bad is the drone and about what speeds.
    • Price/ Deals / Used
      Any discounts or used available?

    My top three right now

    Scorpion Resonated + Valved
    https://xlr8performance.com/scorpion...k3-audi-tt-rs/

    Milltek Resonated
    https://www.ecstuning.com/b-milltek-.../ssxau730~mll/

    Awe track or switchpath.
    https://awe-tuning.com/products/awe-...-exhaust-suite

Ive been curious about the difference in sound with the track edition vs switchpath too. seems like a great deal for 1700 ish i am just scared of the drone. This car is only for FUN mileage. but I do have to go through some highway cruising to get there.

    Videos or sound clips appreciated!

Save yourself a ton of money. If you have the sport exhaust, remove the rear resonators and the mid-cats and enjoy. Its the best sounding I've ever heard, no drone (despite what posts reported) and still nearly silent in Comfort mode.

I have a Milltek unresonated (not available in Europe👍👍👍). It is loud in sport mode but in normal is not loud and about the same as OEM in sport. The tone is bassy and there is no drone. Got mine at ECS. First one which used inferior actuators was replaced under warranty at no cost with the updated design that uses Audi OEM actuators. Good workmanship that you expect from the Britts.

I had the AWE track on mine, I couldn't do it, I got the switchpath and it was a great exhaust.

We can work you a great deal on one for Labor week!

I have the AWE Switchpath with the front OEM resonator removed and think it's the best blend of all - but I also keep the valve open almost all the time, so maybe I should just install the track pipe I also have ;-)

All stock except for catback https://www.millteksport.com/non-res...sxau732mp.html.

Looked at the AWE but figured, I believe correctly, that the dual actuator setup on the Milltek would flow more exhaust gas with a more geometrically symmetrical tone than the single actuator setup of the AWE unit. If you are buying just on cost, the AWE unit is the clear winner.

I have to vote for the bull-x egox catback. Currently running it on my ttrs and it sounds incredible.

It is significantly louder in the cabin than the stock sport exhaust was with windows up/down. It is loud, bassy, and most importantly, smooth/clean. zero rasp. maybe some mild drone at highway speeds but if you close the valve (it only has 1), it is almost like you're driving with the stock exhaust with valves closed. best of both worlds. not only that, but it replaces the stock valve motors with a pneumatic vacuum controlled valve which eliminates any stock valve motor rattle. Unfortunately it is quite expensive at 3k but no regrets.

I have run lots of different combos of dp/mp/catback and personally think the unitronic dp/catless mids/bullx is the ultimate setup if you don't want to annoy the world but still want a loud, amazing sound. For comparison, it's probably half as loud as when paired with the iroz catless dp/mp which i ran for years...that is too loud to daily imo. this is just right.

Here is a clip of my car...don't flame me for this being in a neighborhood, I let a friend drive it just to see my car in motion and he decided to punch it. It's the only clip I have...not the best but you can get an idea of the sound. Car is running unitronic dp/catless mids/bullx on a tte700. The unitronic dp and stock dp are pretty close in sound so it would still sound pretty much the same on stock dp.

and of course, the famous jsnmr2 clip with the bullx on iroz catless dp/mp-

DUDE i didnt know about this one. sounds crazy!

I now narrowed it down between milltek and bullx. Any HP gains on either of these? i know awe said around 30 peak for theirs.

I haven't seen any claims of added power on the bullx but considering with the valve open it is essentially a straight pipe from the downpipe (assuming you have catless mids) with a small resonator, it must be similar performance to all the others. the 2 best things about the bullx are that it doesn't have any of that tinny/muffled sound that some catbacks for this platform do, and it is the only exhaust i've seen for these cars that deletes the stock valve motors (it comes with delete connectors) so you won't have to swap and use the motors from the stock exhaust like you do with most others AND you won't have to press the valve button every time you start the car to open the valves after it closes them, the single valve is just open or closed based on the on/off toggle switch (i'd definitely recommend getting the toggle switch over the can bus controller which is more expensive anyway, it's just easier to deal with imo). also it is considerably lighter than the stock exhaust like the others. as far as i know, emd auto is the only u.s. distributor

The only evidence of increased HP with the Milltek is performance. All stock/no tune except Milltek and lightweight 18" wheels 0-60 is 3.15 - 3.17 according to my Gtech Pro with totally stock numbers in the 3.4 to 3.6 range. Could feel the difference with the butt dyno after the Milltek was installed.

This is very interesting - as my butt dyno feels my car is pretty quick with just the CAI and AWE exhaust also - in fact just past weekend at Club Nationals, I easily chased down another TT RS with a Unitronic Stage 2-93, 4" inlet, downpipes, IC, BUT with stock cat-back including midpipes (mine are gone). Also had little trouble keeping up with a '20 R8 P and almost another chap's '16 GT3 RS ... these all in a straight line (up to about 120) of course.

Roger - I would argue that driving skills trump power on the track and having spent hours following you on the hills of N. Ga and NC I know you to have skills. Shocking to see the e-tron GT in your garage.😂

Aw shucks Mike, thanks - but for the shock of the GT : you know my job compels me to be thorough in knowing our product. The GT is a blast in many respects actually - and I have enough other wheels for any 'distance' driving - and Audi was offering KILLER lease deals - so, I basically I just couldn't he'p myse'f ...

I am nearly done with my 3.5" straight pipe exhaust. Its basic steel nothing fancy. But wanted to make something custom. Not to many 3.5" straight pipe kits. I left my catless mid pipes in place. I made a 2.5" to 3.5" merg pipe. Then its 3.5" from there back. In the back it splits to dual 3.5" pipes. Will run the 3.5" round tube out the back. Once i know i like it i will get a set of oval tips to weld on to make it look somewhat factory. I have kept my factory muffler so it its to much i can switch back while i add an in line resonator or something.

I have my car back on the road now and its loud. In the cabin i can keep it in drive and be easy on the gas but still around the 2k mark it gets loud. Its good to me loud but my wife doesn't like it at all. Now in spot mode with the pops and bangs its very loud. I like it tho. I have a very deep tone i guess thanks to the 3.5" steel and dual outlets. Its pretty nice for being a cheap temp fix of an exhaust.
