2018 B9 S5 MMI Buttons Not Working Caused by Wireless Carplay Module U10E400 U112100

TLDR; After using an amazon wireless carplay module all of the switches for my MMI don't work ;(

I have been having issues with my MMI since I used a wireless apple carplay module.

What Happened:
I bought my 2018 B9 S5 on Thursday August 24th. On August 26th I plugged in the Carlinkit 3.0 wireless carplay module and began using it. Initially, I had no issues using this module to control the Apple carplay, it connected quickly and I had no issues using the rest of the MMI.
On August 30th, as shown in the below error history from VCDS, the issues began.

I had the wireless carplay module plugged in, iPhone connected, car on, and Apple carplay opened when I unplugged the module. Immediately after, the ‘no mobile device connected’ menu came up in the MMI. At the same time, all of the buttons in front of the shifter ie the main MMI wheel, preset buttons, etc. stopped working.


Current situation:
The MMI screen still displays correctly when I am changing the lumbar support, side bolstering etc. as well as the drive mode selection, but again, none of the buttons in front of the shifter that would typically allow you to change the radio, interact with apple carplay or change car settings do not work in any shape or form and do not light up.

I am still able to use apple carplay by plugging in the same wireless carplay module and using voice controls, as well as steering wheel controls. The carplay does display correctly on the MMI screen. The steering wheel controls to adjust volume and go forward and back tracks work with no problem and it still responds to voice commands ie ‘start directions to home’ and ‘open waze’.

I have tried the MMI Reset that one can usually do by holding the two silver buttons forward and pressing the main dial down and releasing at the same time but absolutely nothing happens.

What can be done:
I really want to believe this is a software issue that can be somehow solved with VCDS but I am increasingly worried that a module associated with the MMI and how it interfaces with the controls and the rest of the car is physically damaged (ie a transistor or something) and needs replacement. Ultimately I would love to be able to DIY this problem and am willing to give it my all but I am not super experienced with VCDS and this is the first car that I have owned that's newer than 2003 so I am hesitant.

What I am looking for:
Really any input at all on what I should try to solve this either with VCDS, physically replacing modules or doing much of anything else.

Probably not helpful but just in case you didn’t do the reset button sequence correctly you can see it done here:

I don’t actually know if holding it down works when you need a quick press.

I’ve had some wonky behaviour with my CarPlay module but unplugging it has always fixed it.

I wonder if disconnecting the battery for a few minutes would force it to reset.

Have you had any luck resolving?

I’ve been using my Carlinkit for maybe 6 months. Occasionally he GPS would freeze, I’d unplug the module and plug it back in, and all would be fine.

About a week ago I went back to wired, and now the gestures on my MMI wheel no longer work. I thought it might be a glitch, but after a few days decided to research…. Everything else seems to work fine.
