    Headlight help please.

The other day I noticed that my headlight was out and bought a pair of new HID bulbs. I got them installed and the bulb was still out. I took a check at the fuses and noticed one of them was blown. I did some looking in the headlight housing, I noticed the wire insulation was crumbling apart. Has anyone replaced the wires inside the housing?

This is what the ballast screws looks like, gosh darn rust .

Good thing I kept my stock A4 halogen headlights as I was able to reinstalled those so I don't have to worry about getting pulled over for a out headlight.

Those ballasts should come out. The screws are tamper proof. But are only screwed into plastic.

The wire sheathing cracking, and coming off, is completely normal.

They can be removed without drilling them out? I figured as rusty as they are I would have to drill them out. I have to buy some tamper proof bits as I don't have any.

I tried wrapping the wire with electrical tape but other sections of the wire sheathing started to crumble. I have a feeling this might turn into a headache.

Yes they can be removed without drilling.

I had to use electrical tape on all my wires previously. The wires are not usually the reason for failure.

I was lazy and didnt want to drill them out or run and get tamper bits.

Just drill enough of the nub in the middle, its a torx bit with no torque behind it since its in plastic.

I tried rewiring my housings but the wires coming out of the ballast to low beams were in similar condition. Just rewrapping the wires I could get to gave me a temporary fix but i just swapped new housings and aftermarket ballasts in.

Oh, would a failed ballast blow a fuse?

I might just use my A4 headlights for now and then eventually buy new headlights.

Go on Amazon and buy a security bit set. That’s how you remove those screws.

I've had a light go out when those wires shorted together and blew the fuse. Glad there was a fuse.
