Question for B9 A5 sportback owners

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

I might be interested in purchasing a used B9 A5 (2018-2019) sportback down the line, and I was wondering if I could ask how your experience has been while owning/driving the A5 sportback... How many miles have you driven it for? Have you had any reliability issues? From my understanding, the 2.0t engine is very sturdy but I could be wrong. Appreciate any information that can be shared. Thank you!

Super reliable. That said, there's a mystery rattle that comes from the rear inside the cabin and I can't figure out what the hell is it. Other than that, had the SOS module go out but it was covered under warranty.

I have been very happy with my '19 Sportback. I don't drive it nearly as much as I'd like (my work van gets most of the mileage), but the last 27k miles have been great!

My S5 had a mystery rattle as well. I removed the 2 rear deck-lid covers for a test drive to try and isolate it and rattle went away. Turned out to be the shelf portion rattling. I took some felt tape and wrapped it around the 4 rubber posts that go into the slots, and boom, rattle gone.

Thanks for the tip I'll have to try this ASAP

Bought my 2018 in September 2022, I have put over 12k on it and it sits at 63k now. I've addressed a lot of the annoying rattles and now it's a dream to drive. Little to no complaints and I'm happy to own it. Mine is a 2018 S-Line w/ sports package, B&O, virtual cockpit, cold weather pkg, and warm weather pkg. I would not own one without these options, so look hard for one. I did find this one that looks mint, has great maint. records and has all the ideal bells and whistles.

I had a rattle back there too and it ended up being the D-pillar speakers, if you have the B&O system - could be your issue.

I stuffed some stiff foam under the speaker housing to take up the space and it's totally quiet back there now.

I bought my '19 A5 last October at 16,000 miles and now have 27,000 miles on it. Everything seems to be going well with the motor. The transmission, i think with it being the DCT, gets a little clunky when coming to a stop. I've had similar issues of clunks when my 2014 fusion went from 3rd to 2nd gear, just think its normal DCT operation. Learn how to do the work yourself on the car when it comes to oil changes and stuff. One thing to keep in mind is premium fuel cost is on the rise, just cost me over $50 to fill it up the other day.

I bought my 2021 a5 sb 45tfsi s-line 2 yrs ago new. 38000miles so far zero problems electrical/engine. JB4 tune at 10k and oil changes every 5k. Everything other than a very faint vibration in the floor, has been perfect. It comes on at highway speeds for about 5seconds(the vibration), then goes away. 2 dealers said "no vibrations here - that's normal"; one dealer said the slight vibration is due to the 250$ option sport suspension(my car came equipped with). They had 2 new on the lot - same vibration... The difference there is 49mm body front struts, 20mm lower ride height. So just drive it on the highway if you have that option, make sure it doesn't bother you

2018 A5 Sportback with 44K miles and IE stage I tune. Absolutely love the car! Comfortable, dependable, fuel efficient and quick as hell when I want it to be.

I have experienced the exact same thing on mine... The dealership has never been able to tell me anything, and it's not a super common occurrence either. If it's going to act up, it happens when I am coming to (almost) a stop, maybe less than 5mph, and then go to accelerate again, and I will get this (sometimes strong) clunk in the trans, and sometimes it's pretty strong. It almost feels like revving a bit and dumping the clutch on a Honda Civic. I still love this car, other than the horrible bass response on the B&O stereo!

Have you switched the positive and negative wires on the sub? There’s discussions here regarding the bass phase cancellation with the door woofers the way it came from the factory. I did it and it made a noticeable difference. Sounds cleaner and hits a little harder. Still no match for a 10-12” box and amp, but the B&O sounds pretty decent once you get it dialed in.

No issues with my 19 Prestige. At 32k now and the only thing I’ve ever noticed is a slight whine from what seems to be coming from the rear differential under normal deceleration occasionally. Dealer was able to hear it on a test drive but said everything was fine and shouldn’t be a concern. Doesn’t do it all the time. I added a JB4 and it really woke the car up. Waiting on my APR CAI that’s currently on back order until mid Sept. May do a downpipe next and possibly a res delete, although I haven’t been impressed with the sound of the 2.0 clips I’ve heard. I don’t care if it’s really quiet…great acceleration without sounding like an annoying fart box is what I’d rather have. Just did ECS Tuning 12mm front and 17.5mm back flush spacer kit….looks amazing. Wasn’t a fan of the factory tuck.
