Good source for red top coil packs?

I’ve developed some misfires and it’s time for replacement coil packs. The last set didn’t last very long. It makes me wonder if they were genuine. Anyone have a good source for R8 coil packs? I think the latest part number is 06E905115G.

There's probably some decent marketing gimmick to these, but I recently picked the APR packs up as a replacement for my old red tops and I have no complaints so far. I also changed plugs at the same time so who's to tell if they have any added benefit. They feel more solid than my old red tops if that's worth anything to you.

I’ve seen a decent amount of these APR/CTS “branded” coils going out in short order, enough to not want to run them for what looks like a minuscule gain for more $$, if it even translates into something measurable.

I’ve been running OE Densos in a number of tuned 3.0T and 2.0Ts without issue, mind you that I don’t run them any more than 50K, FCPeuro ftw.

I have had the same ELDOR 78231004 Coils since 2018 (bought at local audi dealer) no problems so far.

I'll have to keep an eye out on mine then.

I beg to differ, eBay and Amazon are rife with counterfeits, FCPEURO has a lifetime warranty…on everything.

that's my point.... get a good brand, not a knock off.. get a good brand and it will last. I've had mine on for over 100k with zero issues.

I like rock but i will say my fueling issues (couldnt get a good hpfp piston upgrade) turned out to be a combination of of bad pistons from AT and bad hitachi fuel pumps from rock auto. Finally got a working hpfp with the 034 piston when i bought a pump from FCP. tried the 034 in 2 pumps from rock and it didnt work put it in pump from fcp and now i can run e.

From an old post by Smac770:

“Audi itself (parts.audiusa.com) will only sell Audi OE parts. But Bosch is the one that makes those coils that Audi sells as their own.
So FCPEuro is selling the same part from Bosch that Bosch (sort of) is selling to Audi. You'll find if you dig into the Bosch catalog that they actually have a different specific part number for the OE part they supply to manufacturers and the equivalent IA (independent aftermarket) part they supply to resellers like FCPEuro and ECSTuning.

If I start at parts.audiusa.com and pick my vehicle and search for ignition coil, I come to:
    https://parts.audiusa.com/p/Audi_200...7K905715G.html
Notice it mentions both Bosch and Eldor.

If we look at ETKA for an '09 2.0T CAEB:
    https://audi.7zap.com/en/usa/audi+a4.../9/905-905000/
We see Bosch and Eldor listed, with Bosch on the 06H... and Eldor on the 07K...

If we search Bosch Auto Parts for (use a '10 as their site, like FCPEuro, does a poor job of separating the CAEB from the BWT, both of which existing in '09 US A4) coils, we get:
    https://www.boschautoparts.com/en/au...tId=0221604115

If we go to the Bosch catalog and look on that part number:
    https://www.bosch-automotive-catalog...uct/0221604115
we see the OE part is 0221604116:
    https://www.bosch-automotive-catalog...uct/0221604116

For 116, the OE part Bosch sells Audi, we see it equivalent to Audi 06H 905 115 B.
    For 115, the IA part Bosch sells everyone else, we they list it as equivalent to Audi 06H 905 115 A, 06H 905 115 B, 07K 905 715 C, 07K 905 715 F, 07K 905 715 G.

If you look at the FCPEuro pics, it's Bosch 0221604115, so thus equivalent to 07K 905 715 G.

Audi is terrible at using the same part number for multiple vendors for ignition coils and spark plugs. For spark plugs, same issue, but Bosch and NGK.

I know nothing about Eldor, and never seen any of the stores selling Eldor OEM (ie IA) coils. I actually have a set of four Denso coils to put in at the next spark plug change. Had free credits expiring at Summit Racing and Denso was the brand they had.

As for the red cap coils, someone would have to present an engineering valid explanation of what's actually different about them and why that difference should be viewed as superior to the original coils and compatible with our engines. Many use them, but it seems like just a cosmetic touch.

I have faith that Rock Auto sells genuine Bosch parts and the Bosch coils they sell are quite a bit cheaper than FCPEuro…

so maybe eldor was oem for the r8, if you look at the pic it has both vag and eldor part # and like i said i bought them at the audi dealer. there are allot of counterfeit parts out there and they were pretty cheap at the time. Have my original coils in toolbox will have to pull them out and see if they have a oem name/part # or just vag id on them

Yea, I replaced my coil packs two years ago, which leads me to believe they were counterfeit. fwiw, my Touareg V8 FSI came from the factory with red cap R8 coil packs and they say eldor on them. There are probably several OE suppliers.
