    Remote Start on 2015 SQ5: 12-volt solutions

Earlier this summer I picked up one of these:

    https://www.12volt.solutions/product...c6950a6c&_ss=r

and yesterday I finally got it installed and working.

It's not the cheapest option, but it was super easy to install and didn't require a 'hidden key'.

What's interesting is that whether it needs a sacrificial key isn't known until you plug in a test device (included).

If it needs a key, a box is provided to put the key into.
If it doesn't need a key, the module reads some settings from the car. Then it needs to be sent back to 12-volt Solutions, they do something with it, and send it back.

The other benefit of this kit vs. the competition (i.e. Fortin) is that all the connectors are accessed in the trunk area. I did NOT have to get up under the dash to wrap wires around the keyport.

And this was fully compatible with the push-to-start feature on my SQ5.

Now, winter is going to suck a little less.

Dude that keyport nearly had me crying It was plug and play didnt have to wrap any wires. It did ask to have to splice into the brake pedal wire, but I just jammed it in the connector and didn't cut anything. On the B8.5 I didn't lose a key. very happy with my fortin unit. Glad to see another solution is available.

Norskie, Does the remote start unit come with detailed instruction on how to install this unit? I'd like to throw one in my Sq5 but I am not electronically savvy so to speak. I like the idea of not splicing and it installs in the trunk. I just installed my RSNav and don't want to strip down the dash anytime soon.

Installation was super easy, no splicing of wires. When you get the item you'll get a link to a couple Youtube videos that walks you through it.

First, there's a dongle you plug into the odb port to determine if you need to sacrifice a key or send the module back for programming.
Second, you take that rear panel off and unplug all the connectors. The video shows all the ones and in the correct order.
Third, you plug in the new harness, and then either set up the key box or press buttons on the new module (in conjunction with a starting sequence) to capture data.
Fourth, if you need to send in the module, disconnect and do that. You can drive the car in the meantime.
Fifth, get the module back (took about a week round-trip), plug it in, and then follow instructions to 'teach' the car how to use it.
    Sixth, wait for winter ;-)

It really is a simple process, way simper than I imagine installing RSNav is.

One thing I noticed is that when the car is remotely started, I can't use the comfort access to enter the vehicle; I need to unlock with the key fob.

I really appreciate the feedback! I'm ordering a unit soon as I can't stand running outside to fire up the Audi, run back inside, and wait on those frigid days for my ride to warm up. The Bride gets to use our heated garage but only one car can fit so this is a justifiable mod when she sees the bill.

I picked one of these up a couple of years ago with the extended range remote option…….. it’s a great option to get as it really does have a loooong range. Also I’ve found that 12Volts support one of the best outfits to deal with. Plug and play (I needed to use the key box on my 2017 3.0 Q5)

Just installed my 12Vsolutions kit last night for my 16' Sq5 and everything went smooth. I opted for the OEM fob "hit lock 3 times" as it's a short range for home and work for my needs. Super easy install as mentioned above and there is a nice pocket in the boot next to the connectors to velcro the key box (required for me) and the remote starter box. The packaging, video instructions, and no cutting was well worth the price. Thanks!

just throwing it out there, but for about half the price you could do the flashlogic kit. its the same exact t-harness 12 volt solutions uses. i wouldnt be surpised if its the same module in a different case. you program it yourself so it doesnt require sending it back and waiting. also gives you the opportunity to make programming changes to the system...not that there are many.
