    Lowering Links and Spacers

I am having IE lowering links installed on my C8 S6 next week and was wondering if anyone had advice on the need for and size of spacers that will allow for flush fitment? Only looking to drop it enough (20-25mm) that the profile improves but do not want it slammed. Appreciate any tips.

One of 3 things happened here, either those that purchased these cars aren’t lowering their cars, this forum’s dying out (literally) or they’re too lazy to type out a few words. I’m in the process of getting into one and I’ve already looked into all this but I’m also on the same boat. Let me know what it is that you’ve found out when you get a chance. 🫡

I have had IE lowering links now for a month or so on my RS7. I went with a nice mild drop, enough to look better but not slammed. I think it was only around 10-11 mm. I could go lower, but didn’t want to mess with the ride comfort. Let us know how it goes and love your ride!

I did 12mm front and 15mm rear on my C8 S6. Used the scanning tool to lower it. Looks pretty flush. I could have gone more aggressive up front though.

I actually ended up installing the links myself, dropped front and rear 12.4mm (1 inch). Was obvious would need spacers so the next week I took it to have some other work done and had the shop purchase and install the spacers for me. Ended up with ECS Spacers at 15mm on the rear and 12.5 on the front. [IMG] The pic in the intial post is prior to any mods if you are looking for a compare.

I didn't want mine slammed either but definitely wanted a more aggressive stance. For sure can feel more of the road regardless of the drive mode but when it gets annoying (like on Pennsylvania interstates) I just change the Drive Select to "Balanced or "Comfort" depending on the degree of pain I am feeling at the time.

I see that you went with your scanning tool to get it done, rather than links. Would you personally recommend lowering the way that you went about things or with links?! I mean I could completely see why you’d go down the route that you did and not pay $300.00 for links when it’s pretty much doing the same thing. My concern is ride quality when it comes to both methods. 🫡

I’ve ALWAYS been more of the type of push things to the limit when it comes to this type of stuff. On my B9 S5 I had the KW adjustable springs and the max was about 1.8” for both front and rear and I pushed them to the limit. I couldn’t help it, I freaking loved the look. I just had to be careful not to make turns at some at high speed, especially ones that involved dips. * I would’ve gone 1.5”R and 1.25” up front on yours. Hey, just me. Lol! IMG_0226.jpg

I've considered going a tad lower already but going to sit on this ride height for a bit just to get used to the ride and driving differences. Will see in the coming weeks if I get the bug for throwing it back up on the jacks.

Can’t go against you there. 1-10 on difficulty degree to install those things, where would you scale it? Appreciate the help.

I'm not going to lie; scale of 1-10 I'd give it a two and I'm no mechanic.

It's so easy. If you purchase IE's links the instructions will tell you to remove the wheels but you do not need to. Just get the car up on the lift or jack/jack platforms, pop off the OEM's, adjust the links to the height you think you want, pop them on, take the car down, turn it on letting the MMI recalibrate for a few seconds, check the height and then repeat if you want to adjust lower.

Here's a vid from YouTube that does a pretty good job showing the process.

As well, here's maybe a better pic of mine than the original in the post. This one with the car turned on and in the sun. As you know, when the car is off it sits a little higher and then readjusts once the ignition is switched back on, so it's sitting at the lowest ride height per my links in this image.

1" Drop All Around on 21's w/ Pilot Sport 4s's

dropped mine almost an inch all around. glad i didn't drop further because with the new flat sidewall of the 4s's there's even less gap in the wheel well. this is the perfect fit for me on 21 inch wheels.

    Nice height.
Which link did you used and do you have the link measurements to accomplish this height?

For those that did this themselves, were there any tricks to popping the OEM link off the stock sensor? I got it off the A Arm (doing this on a E-Tron) no problem but watching the plastic arm on the sensor twist was making me nervous. Did any of use a special tool or was it just a matter of trying to keep it stable and apply as much force as needed.

The ones on my S6 just popped off, a little twist yes, but nothing that would have you thinking you are going to damage the plastic OEM's.

no spacers. new wheels are wider than factory and with the offset i selected, the wheels kicked out towards the fenders perfectly for me.

This isn’t in regards to the S6 but figured I’d ask those that know based off of their own experience(s). 2021 SQ7 over here, going with 22”s, lowering links or the scan tool in order to lower it?!
