    KW V3 Coilover review?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I had asked about the Ohlins previously and got the information I was looking for: they are not good. Im looking at KW V3 coilovers for my 2019 RS3. I plan on driving mostly street with track days/ canyon runs. If anyone has any experience with these coilovers please let me know what you think. PFA

In for others replies too. I've got 88k miles on my stock suspension and just waiting for them to fail.

Just had them installed on my 8Y.

Running setting 4 all around, definitely a bit bouncy for daily, it’s not terrible but at speed it’s great.

You have to jack the car and remove the wheels for adjustability. You may be able to reach through for some adjustments on the front. But it’s probably easier to just remove the wheel and adjust.

Only tested on street and 1 canyon run thus far. Next track day is Sept 15

Very nice, thanks for the reply. Have you messed with the settings or ride height at all or just left it after install?

I test drove it after install with 3 all around. Utilized my mechanics lift to notch it all up to 4. May spend sometime adjusting the rebound to 3 to make it more comfortable for daily use.

Ride height is perfect for me

I replaced my s3 mag ride with KW V1. When my rs3 mag ride goes I'll put KW V1s on. The V1s are perfect for the street. I don't track or have any interest in dialing in the suspension.

As far as I know, KW only make V3 for the RS3.

V1 and V2 aren't available. Can't even find it on the site.

I had them, briefly, the car just never stopped moving around, and the more you messed with them the worse it got, also noisey, the front springs have no helper springs, so even if you lower it a modest amount, the spring moves on the strut mount at low speed when turning, especially over little inclines. The rear spring perches have to be removed in order to adjust them, who the hell wants to do that.

I sold them, installed a set of Vogtland springs on my OE mag-ride and havent looked back.

So much depends on the area you drive in/roads around you.
Stage 1 more than you RS3

So like popping and clunking noises?

Oddly enough, I don't have any of that. I had the DDC's before and they clunked like crazy.

    These have been very quiet

I've heard v3 are soft. The bilstein pss10 are softer. I've decided the car will stay stock height.

My wife has the JRI 529 Innovations coilover setup on her car along with Ground Control camber plates, rear sway bar, rear sway bar end links and front sway bar end links. I love the way her car handles in general but yes, her car is rough and be a bit bouncy for most people but, I come from owning a ZL1 1LE, which everyone complained about the ride on that and I found it to be perfectly fine and liveable for daily use. Suspension feel is very subjective but, performance metrics aren't. The stiffer a suspension system is, the less give and compliance it has. For some cars, tracks (backroads/canyons), and tire combinations, you sometimes want more compliance to give yourself more mechanical grip. Where we are, there are no fun backroads, canyons or even tracks within a 4 or 5-hour radius. Most of our roads are flat or have small undulations but, generally, not the most conducive for getting a feel for your lateral G's. Be that as it may, there are still a few spots where you can send it at obscene speeds (140+ through a turn) and really get a feel for how the car handles turns like that.

For most folks, I'm betting some height adjustable springs, rear sway bar, end links, decent tires/alignment and a DSC Sport controller would satisfy their desires. While we will be making the drive sooner rather than later to attend an HPDE or something, we understand that our use-case is very limited and the suspension is absolutely not for everyone. Adjustability wise, it's been good but, it does seem that the rear of the car simply wants to be lower than the front--which really throws me off. We spent a lot of time trying to get the car to be flat, let alone have any kind of rake whatsoever. Nonetheless, my wife absolutely loves her car and how it handles/feels so, it's a win for us.

Damn. Seems like you are right. So much for the s3 tester. Idk if you can tune the v3s to match the V1s. V1s are great on the street for the s3. You can feel the progressive damping taking all of the edge off road imperfections while also hugging the ground. All pros no cons.

Agree 100%. I had PSS10s on my S5 and hated them. For that reason I decided to stay stock on the 8Y RS3 suspension. Its perfect from factory and its not worth it to me to mess that all up to drop ride height a touch.

I had the bilstein pss (fixed dampening) and absolutely hated them. They were way too soft. I got the v3's now and with the dampening set pretty close to full stiff they are where I want them.

I'm planning to get the KWs as well for my 8.5V, but I'm confused about the ones compatible with magnetic ride. is it truly a plug and play?

    For the 8Y, yes:
    https://www.kwsuspensions.com/audi_rs3_kw_ddc

For 8V, no, the coilovers will come with a plug and play cancel kit for the electronic stock adjustable dampening control. Dampening and rebound will be manually adjustable.

Ha!! I bought them from you....guessing you didn't have them installed properly or setup properly. They are light years better than the mag-ride with springs. Zero noise, the car is planted, on track they are great! Braking at speed is dramatically better, no squirming around at the back anymore.

Anyone have issues with the swaybar endlinks hitting the body on the driver side during full lock left turns? I have whiteline adjustable endlinks so I think it might be that.

I had then on my RS3. I enjoyed them, I also had the KW HAS and they were too soft for me, the V3 was a lot better.

We have some in stock depending on the model you need.
