    Turbocharger shot 73K miles

My 2017 A4 has 73k miles and six months ago came off warranty. I was getting the audi drive system malfunction warning so I brought it to Audi to check it out. They said the turbo needs to be replaced and quoted me a price of $3807 dollars. The oil filter housing between engine block and oil filter housing was also leaking coolant.they quoted me 1100 for that. Total 5200 dollars for both.

Are they out of their minds? I will trade the car in before I spend that much money on that.

What are the chances Audi will replace the turbo under warranty?

should I have aftermarket do it.

Take it up with AoA. You can have an indy shop take care of you, then you provide Audi with the receipt so they could reimburse you, but your mileage may vary

Is this a serious question? The warranty period is over, you did not opt for an extended warranty I am assuming.....so there is ZERO chance they will honor a warranty claim on a car who's warranty has expired.

Yes, you can have an indy shop replace the turbo for less and why would you spend all that money just to put a factory turbo back in? The OEM turbo is $2100 per ECS, a hybrid upgrade that is bolt in is $2000, just have to find someone to tune for it. Blowing a turbo is God's way of saying time to upgrade. lol

Yeah, that will never work even if he was within warranty. Audi needs to review and approve before repairs are completed, and the situations where they would work with a non-dealership on repairs are miniscule and beyond rare and certainly non-existent on something as big as a turbo.

I guess you don’t know what fault codes you were getting? You might want to invest in a cheap scanner.

You can try to complain to aoa but good luck. If you’re lucky the might cover half the cost lol.

I just recently had a problem with my turbo and had the same error msg as you.

    See my post.

    2018 A4 B9 - P334A & P0340 fault codes

Turbo waste gate failed. That part is only 200 usd. Some sites say you must but the entire turbo. You do not! Again refer to my post for details.

Scan for your fault code or ask Audi since it’s there and they likely did that already.

    Good luck

Oh and as for your coolant leaking…..

This model does that! My guess is - it’s the thermostat housing. They all leak. It’s seems to be a design defect.

I have two of these cars. 2017 and 2018. They both leak even after having the thermostat housing replaced under warranty once. I just live with it. The leak is so small I just top up once and a while as needed.

Kindly post what parts they replaced if/when you do get it fixed pls.

Get the TTE 440L and get the canned ECU/TCU Tune from Tunezilla for Stage 3. Will cost you less for way more power than your quote from Audi. Good luck.

    This.

Sorry this happened to you man. At this point I’d go aftermarket myself. You’d be hard pressed to get a factory turbo for the same amount of money. You then have the added benefit of all that extra power when properly tuned.

Worth a shot at the warranty deal, all to gain and nothing to lose. However, being that you are technically out of warranty I’m having difficulty believing they would cover it.
