    Matrix lights activated in Canada?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My car finally arrived (still waiting for PDI to take ownership) and while talking to the sales person I asked about the matrix lights. Apparently here in Canada the latest 2023s delivered and for 2024 the matrix lights are fully active.

Does anyone know if this is true? Or just some miscommunication from the sales person?

Audi Canada did post an Etron with matrix lights on their Instagram back in February, but I couldn’t find anything else about it.

If true, hopefully the US is not far. I had mine enabled and it is my favorite mod. It is probably my favorite mod of any car ever. Seeing the entire road light up, but make a “hole” for other vehicles is pretty impressive.

Canada legalized them in 2018, but implementation is down to each individual manufacturer.

Yeah I read that Canada made them legal in 2018 as well. So hopefully that means audi enabled them!
He did say they have the matrix beams 2.0 or something? Is there an easy way to know it's enabled when I get the car?

To test drive on a dark road at night, preferably with minimal other light sources. Once you hit a certain speed the automatic high beams should turn on. The system views large reflective signs (similar to ones for US interstate exit signs) like other vehicles with lights on. As you pass one of these signs you should see a “hole” where the headlights aren’t shining on the sign. The matrix lights are only enabled when high beams are set to auto. You cannot manually enable them.

You have to be going over 35ish for them to work.

So I've had my car for a few weeks now and played around with the lights. I don't think the matrix lights are fully activated, as it doesn't behave like I see in videos. It just feels like regular high beam assisted headlights.

When its dark, the highbeams auto turn on (and a laser icon shows on the dash). But as soon as I approach a car, or an oncoming car approaches it completely shuts off.
From the videos I've seen, it looks like the high beam is supposed to stay on but cut around the other vehicles.

Does this sound like my matrix lights are fully enabled?

No, your lights do not have the matrix activated. What you deceive is the normal high-beam assist function.

Haven't asked my dealer but did anybody ever get confirmation of the 2024's having matrix activated?

Thats what I assumed, thanks for verifying.
Why does Audi show the laser icon on the dash. It's very confusing lol.

My 2021 Porsche 911 came the Matrix headlights fully activated here in Canada. I had also coded them on my 2019 M4cs. But our 2022 RS6 has it disabled. This headlight tech is really a great safety feature when driving at night. Once you’ve used it, you realize how the lighting on cars without it is subpar. I really wonder why most manufacturers are still disabling it on Canadian cars despite the fact that it has been legalized since 2018. My guess is that they are just lazy and find it easier to import a single spec to North America; and probably because the Canadian market is too small for it to be worthwhile. Disappointing nonetheless…

Laser = high beams on steroids at higher speeds pretty much.

Do you have a source for this? I’d like to send it to the contact from Audi Canada that told me that it’s still not legal to enable them.

Source is the CMVSS part 108 which contains the lighting requirements, including adaptive driving Beams. You can find it on transport Canada's website.

I should probably update and mention they were not active and I had to get them activated by a third party.

Just doing a bump on this for my fellow Canadians. Was at the Service department today and asked about fully enabling the Matrix lights. Was told they (dealership service dept) still cannot enable it without Audi providing the update to do it. He even mentioned they have an area specific to calibrating the matrix headlights for models that have it enabled.

The service team knows it can be retroactively enabled by 3rd parties but without an official software update from Audi they could potentially put themselves at odds with their licensing agreement.

So Whatsapp guy is still the only way for now.

In case anyone is wondering, RS6 Performance models in Canada (and I assume US), still don't have the full matrix function active. I'm getting mine switched on with Sam tomorrow so I'll let you know how it goes.
