    SQ5 and kids

Is the SQ5 practical for 3 kids under 6? Two are in full car seats, and the oldest is in a booster seat. Will all 3 fit in the rear seat?

I'm currently driving a 3 row Kia Sorento and I absolutely hate driving it. I need something that is "fun" to drive....

how tall are you and your significant other? booster seats are no problem full car seats can get tight. With that many kids I'd consider a Q7 If you only had 1 kid then sure the SQ5 would be fine.

Either way get rid of that Kia LOL

I'm 6ft and my wife is 5'8", so we're on the taller side.

I feel like a god damn soccer mom driving this Kia lol. It's a great car, but it is the definition of BORING. I'll look into the Q7.... I just wish the SQ7 wasn't $80k++ lol

It’s manageable, but it depends on the car seats. We have had two kids in our SQ5 and could fit a third kid, or adult on occasion. We went with the Diono Radian car seats, they’re the narrowest on the market.

Hmm never even thought about the actual size of the car seat. This might be a viable solution.

Take the fam to a dealership and load the seats and them into a used B8.5 Q5 or SQ5 (will be the same for this subject) and find out first hand. "I'm interesting in an SQ5, but I have to know first, ...." Who cares if you have no intention of actually sealing a deal there. Do the B8.5 Q5 models have rear seats that slide forward/backwards? Is that the case on all, or an option? That might be one thing you need to confirm as it would be relevant to the subject.

FWIW, my 2013 Q5 3.0T S-line Premium Plus does have rear seats that move forward/backwards.

I actually did this prior to my SQ5 purchase!

If they're still in rear facing seats, the front seats don't have much space. We only have 1 kid and my wife is 5' tall, so it works. But I'm 5'8" and I can't stand sitting in the seat ahead of the car seat. It's fine for daily kid stuff, but when we go camping or on a road trip with all our gear, it's tight. We have a dog and are planning on having more kids, so I picked up a Q7 that is significantly more comfortable with all of our stuff. You might be able to make the Q5 work with front-facing car seats, but I think the Q7 will be much more comfortable.

This is a brilliant idea! I'll have to see if I can find an SQ5 local to me.

1 will be rear facing, 1 will be forward facing, and the 3rd would be a booster seat. The Q7 definitely has my attention, so I'll be checking some of those out for sure.

A Cayenne will split the difference between the Q5 & Q7 (no 3rd row) and will have better driving dynamics than the Q7. Something to consider!

Keep the Kia for it's practicality. As the kids grow you'll appreciate the space and three rows etc.

Then get a fun car "on the side" for when you don't need to haul the kids.

    Different tools for different jobs.

We are a super tall family (3 of us at 6’, one at 5’9” and one at 6’5”) and my kids are practically all adults now. No car seats obviously, but all five of us fit in my Q5. We don’t do long road trips that way mainly because there is not enough cargo space for that, but we do occasionally all ride together for trips up to a couple of hours. The Q5 is wide and tall, so everyone fits. The biggest issue is the massive transmission tunnel that prevents any leg room for the middle seat passenger in the back.

i'm gonna go with a hell no. I just moved from a sq5 to a q7 because our single child moved into a convertible car seat which no longer would fit in the rear middle and it made the front passenger seat uncomfortable even for my 5'3 wife. we road trip often and will probably have another kid within a year or 2 so moving up to a bigger vehicle made sense. 3 kids plus all of their accoutrements will be a tight squeeze

go for a q7 with the black optic package & air suspension, toss on an apr tune and you've got family hauler that looks even better than an sq5 (imo) and is nearly as fun to drive.

I have 3 minions (3, 5, 7) and its alright for the time being. Youngest has a DIONO stage 2 car seat (narrowest on the market) and the boys are in boosters or nothing. Its do able. I have a roof rack carrier for the summer trips to the mountains.

Eventually I do want a 3rd row SUV, most likely trade in the RAV4 for a 3row Highlander. Im too poor for an SQ7 lol

Looking to upgrade the SQ5 as we're expecting our 2nd child in August. The space is super tight for the front passenger if you have a rear facing car seat behind it. My son is front facing now so it's not too bad but he still kicks the back of the seat. We really love the SQ5 but time to go something with a 3rd row like a Grand Highlander, Telluride, or Tahoe/Yukon.

You are exaggerating, the Q5, is not a big car, the back seat is a squish even for kids............5 big people like you say, would be a clown car.

Call it a clown car if you want, but nothing I said is an exaggeration. Like I said, wouldn’t do long trips in it, but for short hops a couple of times a year it is fine for the 5 of us.

I think the question of "comfort" may be a bit too vague and personal.
FWIW My wife and I are 6 and 6'3 respectively and we find our Q5 small inside with the car seat in the back - even forward facing but ESPECIALLY with it rearward facing.
Average height adults, sitting in the rear seats, don't have enough leg room to keep their knees in line with their hips with us both occupying the front seats.
That's been our experience. Take it as you will on your journey to find the right vehicle.
