    Matrix Headlight Deactivated

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I was looking through my vehicle options and I came across “Matrix Headlights deactivated”. Is this not allowed in the USA? It’s a C8 RS7 and the laser lights seem to work as they should. Is that sort of the same thing or something completely different?

Why does it say they’re deactivated and how can I get them activated if they’re off?

Thank you all in advance. I know a little, not a lot so I’m a bit confused.

Yes, the matrix lights are deactivated in the US. In the US, matrix are considered Adaptive Driving Beams" (ADB). See below for the background and status. The laser and matrix are different lighting systems.
There's a person named Sam that can enable the matrix lights, There's a thread in the C8 RS6/RS7 Specific forum that has his contact information.

    Background and status:

Last year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a final rule allowing the use of ADB. During development of the final rule 2 major ADB standards existed worldwide, which are SAE-J3069 and ECE-R123. When NHTSA issued the final rule amending FMVSS 108, it deviated from both standards, citing concerns with glare, among others. The amended 108 allows the use of ADB but doesn't grandfather in any manufacturers existing system. Those existing systems need to be tested and certified to the 108 standards, which no manufacturer can meet, since their systems are based on the SAE-J3069 and/or ECE-R123.

In April 2022, 11 parties, one being VWGoA, sent letters of petition to NHTSA requesting reconsideration of the amended 108. NHTSA has the issue as pending, but I'm unable to find any publicly available correspondence after April 2022. VWGoA, in their letter, stated that hardware and software changes are required to comply with FMVSS 108 and would take years to do so. If interested, you can lookup Docket ID "NHTSA-2022-0013" on regulations.gov.

Hope this provides a bit of insight.

I saw in the other thread that you had your matrix enabled. How do you like them?

They’re pretty amazing. The process is simple too just don’t let them upsell you with other things unless you want them. It was $700 and that included the shipping and return.
