2009 A4 2.0TSI - change water pump belt - how to get nut off

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Any good tips how to get the nut (left handed thread) off the balance shaft to change the belt?
I managed ONCE, but two times now that I can get the nut off (left hand thread IIRC). Even seems shaft is spinning when torquing hard.

Possible to turn shaft (timing chain jumping)?
    What tool to use?
Jamming needed (to prevent engine to turn or balance shaft to turn)?

Just chaning water pump/thermostat, but want to change belt as well.

If I remember correctly that's supposed to be a life time belt. Most people just replace the pump.

Belt is replace if damaged. Most people replace it if they are in there since you'll do that maybe one time ever. The bolt on the other hand must be replaced every time.

Workshop manual makes clear you have to counter hold the crank vibration damper to keep the crank from turning over.

You should have the workshop manuals if you're doing this level of work. At the very least, open it on cardiagn.com and know the proper process as a starting basis. This is in engine mechanical - CAEB.

    Counter hold tool - https://audi.snapon.com/SpecialTools...temId=49090123
probably lower cost Chinese knock offs out there that will be good enough, but $60 is hardly significant.

Also, the bolt head is recessed, you'll need a 12mm wrench with a lip. You'll get the idea from the official tool for the task (an insert to an adjustable head torque wrench): https://audi.snapon.com/SpecialTools...temId=19280183

Such as https://www.geniustoolsusa.com/geniu...l-781012l.html but then you'll need to work out a means to compute the correct torque when tightening.

Found a "lip" 12mm box wrench. And using the 24mm crank bolt to hold the balance shaft. Then it works. Key is the 'lip' on the box wrench. And 'left hand thread' obviously.
