    Exclamation Looking for a 2017 A3 Transmission

    Hi all,

We recently had the transmission fail on our 2017 Audi A3 Premium with only 40k miles. The transmission ID is SQL. We are on the hunt to find a used or refurbished one as the new OEM is way to expensive. Thanks all, Frank.

Try car-part.com . It's a network of all salvage yards in US and Canada. Also I'm not sure what SQL is but you either have 6 speed DQ250 or 7 speed DQ381.

Thank you MikTip... The dealer did a cursory review clearing the codes and seeing if they came back. They determined that it was a transmission failure. When driving I got a warning that there was a transmission issue but the warning said I could continue driving. I had to limp into the nearest dealer. They were very busy and like I mentioned they just did a review of the codes and clearing them. What do you think is the best way forward in terms of diagnosing whether its the electronic control unit(mechatronic) or a transmission failure... Thanks so much.

    Hey bud , I’m having the same issue with mine… 2015 Audi a3 , I got the p2711. Yes it’s a dq250 6speed.
She slips all negative gears. I was told it could be my clutches. Then another shop said it’s my whole transmission.

I have no idea about transmission ID
But I do know mine came with a puq
When I search up a used one , there’s a huge price difference, there’s only two options. A puq “which go for 1k” and a qsn which are way cheaper in price.
I tried to look at the difference but there’s no information.
They are both 6speeds. Wet clutches , etc etc,

I would like to get a qsn one, does anyone know the difference?

just did my mechatronic a couple of weeks ago.
lots of testing and scanning for me.
    then lots of online researching.
i felt even with all the testing and research i was still guessing if it was the clutch, transmission itself, or the mechatronic.
the symptoms was what helped me guess in the right direction for the fix. the scans were still a guessing game.

if you do it at the dealership, its about $6k USD to $10k USD.
indy would be about $4k USD to $6k USD.
with whats involved i wouldn't really take the lower price on the indy. but with the dealership i would go with the lower price.
many moving parts to doing this correctly. after i did it myself i would replace everything i touched so that it would be fresh. many indy mech would have to reuse or try to skimp out if you low ball them.
used all OEM fluids, OEM parts, OEM mechatronic, etc...

    fun job to do.

    odis was involved.
car runs great now. raced an amg merc the other day. beat him. but now i realize my brakes needs upgrading as well.

Hey guys , I honestly don’t have the time for this , my cars been a money pit for the last year. Water pump, intake manifold, coolant hoses, pcv , throttle body.. the list goes on and on. I posted on a forum yesterday but no one has replied to that thread.

    I have a p2711. No odd gears ,
Some say it’s a clutch, others say is a mecha , others say it’s the whole transmission.
I’m at 117k miles on it.

I think it can be the clutch since I know 1 side controls even gears and the other side control the odd gears.

    I can put her into D R
    1 yes 2 no 3 yes 4 no 5 yes 6 no
When it goes into the odd the gears , it’s like it’s on neutral, then shoots the rpm almost to redline, with an error msg on my dash “gear malfunction. No reverse you may continue driving” but it’s on limp mode.
I pull over, turn it off and turn her on. And it’s I can drive again. But no odd gears.

agreed. this "brand" is a money pit. i have talked to audi / vw specialists, they also said its a money pit.

one owner has his daughters vw gti in the shop. stock car, only used for her school travels. has a broken valve spring. he says its a piece of shit. valve springs are another issue these cars can also have break out of no where.

i asked why do you only service vw and audi? he says they have plenty of work so why do other brands.

    good point sir!

Mike , I’ve been on that site .

It goes back to my point , it leads to 4 points.

Believe me, I would dump money but I’m over it.
I just wanna know if it’s the clutch packs or mechatronics.
