    Mods for 2023 A5 B9.5 Coupe?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello all,
I just purchased a ‘23 Daytona Grey A5 45 Prestige with black optic package and have been enjoying it for a few days.
I just added a crystalline tint (20% all around and 70% on the windshield).

    I came from a 2008 N/A V10 M6 with quite a few mods, and prior to that I had a completely built 7.0L V8 GTO with 500whp and 500wtq.

I thought I’d get a new car that wasn’t an S model so I wouldn’t be as inclined to mod it but apparently I was naive!…. I’ve spent a couple days looking at mods and here is what I’m looking at:

    - 034 lowering springs (seem to get great feedback for improving the stance and handling while not sacrificing ride comfort)

    - spacers (I think 12.5 front and 15 rear on stock wheels)

    - JB4 tuner (since there are no Stage 1 tunes for the B9.5 yet, and I am still under warranty)

    - IE polymer intake for a little extra power along with the JB4.

    - I want to do something to the exhaust but not sure what. Some posts recommend a resonator delete (034?), others a muffler delete. I’d like a little extra sound, no drone and not a ton of crackle pops…

    - I considered a Wagner intercooler since I’m in SoCal and it gets pretty warm in the summer. I don’t race or track the car though, so it may not be worth it other than for longevity and safety to keep those IAT’s down.

    - I will want new wheels but not for a while…I’ll definitely need help figuring out what size we can get away with 19-20” but much wider and not sacrificing much comfort.

Anyway, that’s where I am right now. I’ll gladly take feedback and recommendations so I can do this right the first time (ish - I know I’ll want a tune some day but that’s not out yet and I think I can have enough fun with the JB4, minor exhaust change and the intake).

    Thank you,
    -Pat

Sell it and get a RS5 dude. Coming from cars with that much power, I'm afraid you may never be satisfied with the power gains from tuning the EA. That said, the A5 is a wonderful vehicle and the mods you listed are definitely a good choice!

Haha - I hear you. I don’t need that much power anymore though. I so rarely ever used it that I would honestly prefer a smoother riding car that’s fun, sounds, and looks good without going as crazy as I did before.
It is a great car though - I’m enjoying it!

I have a 2021 A5. Havent done the JB4 yet, but I did find the one and only Throttle Controller available for our cars and it has made a huge difference in the enjoyment of driving the car. Took about 10 mins to install. Follow the instructions well about the Key.

I thought I would update this.
Over the past few months I did the window tint, lowering springs, resonator delete, 12/15 spacers, 034 intake and rear sway bar.
The car has been a lot of fun to drive. While not as fast as my M6 was, that was an older car and the NA V10 engine, while fun, also had occasional bearing problems. While I replaced the bearings (not cheap!), in the back of my mind there was always that concern something could go wrong, something I have far less concerns with in the A5.
This past weekend I installed my JB4 and wow, what a difference it makes!
I sent a couple logs to George and MAP 2 is running well. He even recommended I try MAP 3 and those logs looked safe too, despite only running 91. I need to spend some time this weekend and see if I can tell a difference e tween MAP 2 and 3.
Overall this has been a really fun car so far and while there aren’t many mods performance mods to do, there are a few things lined up.
I ordered some EBC red’s to lower breakfast, and I’ll have those installed at a later date. I may also get an IC.
This weekend I should also get the cable from Sam for my headlights so I can program the lasers etc.

I’ll report back once that is done.

Thanks for the update Pat. I'm in the same boat trying to figure out what mods I actually CAN do. I actually just installed the SAAS throttle controller last night and I'm not over the moon with it. It kind of feels like I can get the same effect by just pressing the throttle faster/further by myself. Pretty sure all it does is multiply your throttle input, so if you put 50% throttle it'll send the computer 75%, or whatever.

I'd like to do the resonator delete, how do you like the sound without it? I don't want it to sound like aftermarket exhaust, but would like just a little extra.

I guess JB4 is next on the list now.

That is what throttle controllers do.

The resonator delete is great and definitely helps the car sound better. I would be fine with another 20% volume increase but it did make a difference, doesn’t drone and sounds great!

I can’t praise the JB4 enough considering the improvement and given the fact we don’t have an ECU tune available.

Posted this elsewhere but figured I’d keep this thread updated as well.

I just had a Wagner IC installed, and an AWE track exhaust and Karbel CF diffuser thanks to Mops.
I ordered quad tips as well but they were the wrong inlet size 3” vice 2.5” so I need to order another set. Currently running the stock 4” single tips which look funny but it’ll work until I get it fixed.

Car sounds much better from the outside but there is significant drone on the inside. Brand new exhaust and many reviews indicate that will quiet down after 500-1000 miles so I’ll see how things work out. Overall it sounds great for a 4 cylinder!
IATs stay consistently low and damn is that a large IC!

Overall a great set of mods and I can’t wait to fix exhaust tips to quads and break in the exhaust - worst case I can add something in the system to tame the drone a smidge.
    I’ll update later on.

Well, I enjoyed the A5 but in the end it was just too slow for what I wanted. Coming from the cars I did, I should have known better than to think I could take my desire for more raw power - so Friday I traded it in and went home in a 2023 BMW M4 Competition.
Night and day difference. I definitely miss the automatic seatbelt extender from the Audi but other than that I’m enjoying the new ride!

This might be unpopular, but I truly think the A/Q lines are not at all meant for enthusiasts. If you care about performance, you should at least go for an S. A/Q will get you the build quality and luxury of Audi, which is enough for many people. But once you start seeking performance mods, it is better to just get the S.

people are mostly right except for one key thing, a lot of the ppl giving this feedback have not built any of the A cars. I would say it's true, don't get too much because once you put like 10k into the build, you mind as well have gotten a S car. I would stay stage 1 is worth it. These cars are detuned a simple stage 1 wakes it up a lot. don't do more than that.
People also forget the A cars with 4 cylinders often weigh less and are equipped with DSGs. Power to weight ratio is a real factor.
