    IE Stage 2 TCU Upgrade

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello everyone. I'm currently on IE's stage 1 ecu and tcu tune. Hardware mods are IE FMIC and res delete. I'm planning on their intake setup this year. I have done "some" research into the main differences between stage 1 and 2 tcu files and came up empty handed.

    Is it worth the upgrade?
What did you notice the most?

I don't have plans on E85 because the closest station that sells it is about an hour from me.

    Thanks!

I have been researching too. There are major differences all listed here: https://performancebyie.com/collecti...al552-zf8-tune. I'm also interested in real-world reviews but can't find any either. There are some YouTube videos that broach the subject but they're more just commentary. I want performance comparison, launch control RPMs, shift feel, and the like.

I'm on stage 1 and my problem is launching. IE has three launch modes but there's no description of how they work. I called IE and they said it depends on the vehicle's mods. I'm most interested in how well their launch control works, esp. in "street" mode. I have 2021 SQ5 for which the stage 2 TCU tune is not available yet. IE says sometime in the late spring probably.

034Motorsport has a stage 2 TCU tune for the B9.5 available now but their adjustable launch control is not ready yet AFAIK. 034's method is particularly attractive since it doesn't need a TCU download to change launch control aggressiveness whereas IE's does need a download. IE says it's a complete tune, not just an RPM change, and why it requires a download, so perhaps the IE stage 2 TCU tune is doing quite a lot more than just modifying RPM.

Either way, I'm just heading out on a road trip and will wait till I get back to go stage 2 TCU. My hope is both IE's tune is ready for the B9.5 and 034's variable launch control is available by then, and that some real-world reviews surface.

I read IE's page several times. Just couldn't find the difference between the two. Unitroic, for example, states the difference between their software stages.
I think I'll get a hold of them to find out what the differences are. If the differences are negligible, it wouldn't be worth it to me. Maybe if I get a Hybrid turbo.

Actually, it's stated on their website: TCU stage 1 is a freebee packaged with ECU stage 1 to allow maximum engine torque - there is no performance or behavior change TCU stage 1 tune vs. stock TCU tune (same with 034).

    Thank you for the clarification.

FWIW, not IE, but this is the best B9/9.5 TCU stage 2 "review" I can find: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6sxXHiTjh6Q&t=95s

Not so much the commentary but as an enthusiast, you'll likely immediately pick up on the vastly improved transmission operation vs. the stock TCU tune. IE's stage 2 TCU tune is likely to be in the ballpark.

    Thanks, that was helpful!
