OEM Interior Monitor/Inclination Sensor Alarm Retrofit

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hello,

Last summer my C7 A6 was broken into in a crowded parking lot and stolen without a key. I recently acquired a C8 A6 but still have to frequent the same parking lot where break-ins and thefts are rampant. As you can imagine, I'm now quite paranoid about this and would love the peace of mind the interior motion sensor offers given that it will sound the alarm and immobilize the vehicle.

I'm wondering if anyone with a newer model vehicle has done this same retrofit and can provide any pictures or insight. After 1,000 different Google searches around Audi/VW OEM Interior Motion Sensor Retrofit, VCDS/VagCom, Interior Sensor Alarm Install I've stumbled on a few threads where people have successfully completed this on newer models and said it was quite easy but didn't elaborate with a how-to or instructions.

I've purchased the OEM motion sensor (https://parts.audiusa.com/p/Audi__Q7...5Q0951177.html) and wiring harness which tucks away nicely in the sunroof module. The motion sensor has only three wires (ground, constant 12v, and LIN Bus) that need to be connected before the feature can be enabled in VCDS/VagCom. My understanding is that if your car has a sunroof and rain/light sensor then all the wiring can be done in the roof above the sunroof module just by tapping into open pins on existing connectors.

I also have the motion sensor wiring diagram from the service manual that is visually helpful but doesn't (to me) show where these wires can be connected above the sunroof module.

If anyone can help out with more specific instructions or pictures I would greatly appreciate it. In theory, this is a pretty easy retrofit that I think a lot of people would take advantage of given the low cost.

    Thank you!

I don’t have the answer you are looking for…

I was awaken by the sound of the alarm when I took a short nap during a trip with the doors locked. There’s “interior monitoring” option on MMI on my C8 S6
Pretty sure our vehicle is already equipped with motion sensor. Or only some C8 models come equipped with motion sensor?

I guess so. I have a prestige A6 and it doesn't have an interior motion sensor. Oddly enough, the 2023 base model A4 I had as a loaner recently had that sensor. Not sure why they add them to some but not the others.

    Hi Hrpfg2,

Do you have VagCom/VCDS by chance? I was able to get this sensor installed but am unable to find the interior monitoring parameters specific to C8 A6/S6s. I've looked all through the internet and cannot find anyone that has posted it before. If you have have VagCom/VCDS and are able to pull this I would be forever grateful. Below is from a new thread I started. Please let me know when you get a chance. Thanks!

If you have the OEM interior monitor/inclination sensor in your vehicle and VagCom/VCDS can you please help a brother out? I'm retrofitting the aforementioned sensor and I need this data to enable this device. This should be the same data set for all C8 A6/S6's and should be a combination of numbers and letters, not just FF FF FF FF FF etc.

These are both found in Central Convenience (46) > Adaptations > ENG122925-DWA_Interior_Monitoring_Data_Set_Development & IDE05823 - DWA Interior Monitoring Parameter Set as outlined below.

ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED! I have the sensor installed and coded but am otherwise stuck without these parameters and am very envious of you all with interior monitoring from the factor. I have also searched all over the internet and couldn't find this info anywhere. Thanks in advance!

My B5 A4 had the motion/tilt sensor in it.

Thanks for letting me know anyways. I feel your pain. I wasn't expecting to have to buy another VCDS cable with the new car.

    Hi again,

Sorry for harassing you with the random alarm question but I appreciate your help so far. Today I read that the MyAudi app can, or should be able to send notifications to your phone when the alarm is activated.

Did you receive such notification when you accidentally set your alarm off?

I was able to get the interior motion sensor installed on my vehicle and functioning as expected.

    Thanks!

interior monitoring is part of all Audi's - new and old. Every one of my 4 Audi's, 2000-2019, has it. It's discussed in the owners manual, and it can be turned on and off. There is/was nothing else to buy, it's part of the car. From a base A3 to an R8.

Vehicle > settings and service > interior monitoring. Page 40 of the owners manual.

    Hey, No worries!
We are all here to help each other out.
So I don’t recall getting notifications on my phone but it might be bc I don’t have the paid subscription.

Interior monitoring is not standard equipment. My C7 P+ A6 and C8 Prestige A6 didn't come with it. I successfully installed and coded the sensor in my C8 and still don't have the interior monitoring functions in the MMI.

My C7 was shipped from Germany to Texas and my C8 from Germany to California. Not really sure how Audi decides which cars to add this sensor to. Thanks for your input!

Edit: I do agree that this should be standard equipment. The $220 MSRP sensor and corresponding ~20' of 20g wire probably costs VAG less than $25 and $0 in additional install costs. The same interior monitoring/inclination sensor is used across a whole mess of VAG cars.

Appreciate it! I don't have the paid subscription either and the Audi Connect FAQ doesn't call this feature out specifically. Maybe its a ROW thing.
