    Inspection - OBDeleven Readiness checks

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Has anyone experience using OBDeleven to scan for readiness to determine if you'll pass inspection?

I'm from NY and will be going for inspection soon and have following (image below) results using OBDeleven readiness. Will the car pass? What are must complete and what is allowed not to and still pass? Or OBDeleven doesn't show/scan for all checks that are part of an emission test?IMG_20230320_091204.jpg

Looks like you recently reflashed the ECU and haven't gotten enough cold starts yet or ran on highway to get cat up to temp

And that's a fail I assume if I'd go in for inspection like this? Didn't know I have to drive for a bit after flashing.

You need about 25-40 highway miles and 2-3 cold starts to set those last two ready monitors. Yea you can't just flash and go right away, but your cat and 02 is good so you'll have no issues after those last 2 lock in

Much appreciated! Do you know in NY does everything needs to be ready or certain check don't and still pass the inspection? Read somewhere 1-2 check can be not ready and still pass, but not sure how that applies in NY and if it's only certain checks to which it applies.

Not 100% but most places only allow 1 not ready 2 is fail.

In CT you can have 1 readiness fail, as long as it's not a catalyst one. Any catalyst readiness fails = fail here in CT on newer cars (not sure what the year cut-off is).
As an example, my old Big turbo build 04 A4 had the cat readiness not set but threw no CEL and still passed.

Would need to connect to car to say exactly, but it should be under engine one of the options.

You can activate the automatic test sequence with OBD11 also if you still need to. It’s a bit of a pain to do but I eventually got it to work waiting for more VCDS licenses. It will activate all of them usually, I had an issue with the SAI not readying up, and then I had to start over since the car got really hot and threw a CEL I assume cuz it was at 240 degrees and 100 outside. Eventually though I got them all to ready fine. It’s easier with VCDS cuz you can activate each one individually

Possibly it's an obd pro feature. I can see tomorrow where exactly to navigate and let you know.

Don't confuse "Not Activated", with "Not Ready" or as OBDELEVEN will show "Not completed successfully". Not Activated will show "Not supported" or "unsupported" on an inspection report, VCDS will list it as "Not Installed". Not every car has or supports those emmissions monitors so it isn't applicable. OBDELEVEN uses some odd terminology some time, but the monitoring of catalyst at operating temperature is usually referred to as "heated catalyst monitor". No amount of driving is going to set the two monitors showing Not Activated as they are not applicable. If all your monitors that apply are ready, then you should be good to go. Here is my emmission scheck from state of CT. It's on an S3, but the monitors are the same

I checked with OBD, apparently Charts(Logging) and readiness is not supported on the IOS app so that sucks

How is this done via OBD11? Can you share tips/steps on how this is done? Thanks!

Hi All, not sure if this is common knowledge or not but I figured out how to activate the readiness test sequence (with OBD11) by going into basic settings under Engine control unit.

Once you select a test/check sequence, pressing and holding the check button starts the test. I believe the vehicle has to be at operating temp before you can successfully run these tests.

When going through each sequence, channel 4 (4th block) will tell you if system is ok, not ok or needs to be tested and you would want to obviously activate tests on the ones that are not tested yet. Hope this helps!
