Anyone running an Optima Yellowtop in their B9? Any modifications needed to make it work/fit? Believe it is an H7 group size

    Thanks!

The DH6 is an H6 (group 48) battery, the DH7 is an H7 (group 94R) battery. These are the same battery form factors the stock batteries are. They don't make an H8 (group 49) or H9 (group 95R) sized yellowtop. Looks like B9 just uses clamps on the hold downs at the front and rear bottom edges, so overall size isn't really a concern anyway, so long as the same hold down system is present.

    You have the DH7?

I’d be sure you code the battery for your car. I did not, and my Optima lasted only 2-years.

How does one code the battery?

Go to the J533 control module (19-CAN Gateway), to adaptations, find the adaptations for setting the battery capacity, the battery vendor (no need to change this), and the battery serial number. Audi hard links the battery capacity with the battery type and battery size; Audi has a set Ah value for each size/type combination.

Sounds easy enough. If it has been a few months since I put my yellow top in, should I still do it now?

Might as well. I'd probably use the 75Ah entry, which is H7 AGM. The Optima Yellowtop H7 is 80Ah AGM. But among Audi batteries, 80Ah is an H7 wet flood. Yellowtop is definitely not wet flood.

Audi 8W battery specs (PR code, part number, capacity, size/type):
    J0H, 000 915 105 CB, 58Ah, H5 AGM

    J2D, 000 915 105 CC, 68Ah, H6 AGM
    J0L, 000 915 105 DG, 72Ah, H6 wet flood [also see this listed as J1D in places]
J4E, 000 915 105 ED, 79Ah, H6 enhanced wet flood [might see this printed incorrectly as JE4 in places]

    J1N, 000 915 105 CD, 75Ah, H7 AGM
    J0R, 000 915 105 DH, 80Ah, H7 wet flood
    J0K, 000 915 105 EE, 93Ah, H7 enhanced wet flood

    J0B, 000 915 105 CE, 92Ah, H8 AGM
    J1U, 000 915 105 DK, 95Ah, H8 wet flood

    J0P, 000 915 105 CF, 105Ah, H9 AGM
    J0Z, 000 915 105 DL, 110 AH, H9 wet flood

US B9 only use AGM, I'm pretty sure. B9 certainly no longer uses the traditional wet flood batteries (Dx part revisions), they are not suitable for auto-stop/restart vehicles.

All the Audi batteries are DIN H profile, 190mm tall by 175mm deep.
    H6 aka group 48 is 278mm wide
    H7 aka group 94R is 315mm wide
    H8 aka group 49 is 354mm wide
    H9 aka group 95R is 394mm wide

Surprised how much more capacity rating the EFB batteries have for a given size. But AGM is still the better tech.

Alright so I think I did it right. I went and changed the final digit of the serial number and apparently my optima is 80Ah so I changed that from the 75 that was in there.

    Thanks for the help.

    I have a B8 SQ5 and just got an Optima DH7 AGM.
Anyone can help out with the coding?
I'm using an OBDEleven and my coding screen looks like the attached pic

the optima is 80 AH, and I have no clue how to code it correctly

In the B8, the CAN protocol J533 only takes an Audi battery part number. The Optima is an 80Ah H7 AGM, so the closest option you have is the 75Ah H7 AGM: 000915105CD. Which seems to be what you already had. So just change some digit in the serial. Or if the Optima has an actual serial, feel free to incorporate that into the serial value somehow. As long as the serial in adaptation string has the required number of digits (10). I change mine to all 1s, then next time all 2s, then all 3s, ....
