Who’s done an auto to manual swap? Is a manual subframe needed for an O1X?

So I just realized after pulling my motor and trans that the auto transmission subframe is setup like my B5.5 Passat where the transmission is suspended by two ears. The b6/b7 manual has no provisions for side mounts and relies on one center mount with a aluminum double hump support. I’m wondering if I can keep the subframe or do I have to change it when doing a manual conversion?

Went to yard today and found out that the subframe is different gonna re-examine the subframe and determine if I can use the ears of an B5 O1A trans on an 01x trans mission and mount it to the existing auto crossmember. If not I will then cut the ears off the subframe and mount the b6 crossmember in place.

I would just install a cross brace. I will be doing the same swap on my avant. I think cut the ears off and call it a day, but I am curious as I never see it mentioned if its really needed.

I haven't been on AZ in years, but randomly got a thread update for another old thread in my email and came back to the B6 forum, saw your question.

Do you have a full parts car available? There's a lot of parts you'll need that you don't think you need, until you need them lol.
