    B8 SQ5 Exhaust Options

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
To preface, I have been searching this forum as well as various others but have not found the best solution. It’s appearant that the AWE touring is the way to go, but it’s really hard for me to convince myself to spend that money. I’ve seen some decent sounding videos of an x-pipe and all reasonators deleted. Is this the best option to get a more aggressive tone with minimal drone and raspiness? Or would a custom axel back be a better idea?

On another note, if anyone is selling an AWE Catback or miltek, feel free to PM me!

everyone that owns an AWE system will tell you the same thing - it was worth the money. no drone. no fitment issues. hell, even my wife will drive my Q with it all tarted up and not complain.

    used ones sell quickly

Hello. If you are not ready to pay a lot of money for AWE, then your option is to create your own custom exhaust system. It will cost less than AWE, at least for me the exhaust was cheaper to build.

Just don't end up with a loud thing, you can't stand to drive. That can happen when experimenting.

So I have a 3.0t Q5. I recently decided to remove the rear mufflers (left everything else stock) after watching what felt like a millions YT videos! Haha

The result (so no video clips to post here) but if you want message me and I can test or email you some.

I too was going to go the res delete w/ mf res but found the videos to be kinda raspy? So decided before I weld a res on and ‘ruin’ its brand new status id try the rear muffler delete.

Cold start: has a real nice sound. Deep and throaty
Warm idle: in the car you barely hear it. Standing behind the car slightly louder and deeper than stock.
Curry driving: LOVE the sound! Deep if you’re on it but I can easily drive around and it not be that loud at all. (It’s loudest when accelerating so you’ll hear it and you stop/go but it’s not loud annoying imo. My wife likes the sound which says A LOT)
Hard acceleration: I usually have the car in tip so I don’t get this ‘sound’ often but if you’re in D or S and accelerating kinda hard, when the car shifts it makes a fatty/poppy noise. Not sure how to describe it. It’s not my fav noise but very easily avoidable.
Highway: the ONLY negative I have is highway driving. I’m not sure if it’s drone or just increased volume but you can hear a deep tone. Now it’s not unbearable by any means! Radio on and /or windows cover it up. My wife doesn’t mind it enough for me to decrease it before we take it on a 6hr drive to Tennessee…. (She’s not exactly the car enthusiast type) if that tells ya anything.

Sounds and “loud” and all that is sooo subjective and hard to record accurately imo but I’m willing to help if I can!

I have a the mf res if you’re looking for one.

Here is another thing you can try, that is very easy. The SQ5 has quad exhaust tips, and normally just 2 are open unless
you are accelerating or in dynamic mode. If you go to the left fuse panel, B, brown, pull fuse #1, electric exhaust door.
Then that opens all of the tips all the time.
