    Strut mount socket?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm in the middle of trying to track down a clunk in the right rear suspension. Does anyone know what socket you're supposed to use to get this strut mount off? With the wiring/harness you can't use a traditional strut mount socket. Am I missing something simple?

May not be the right size, but it would look something like this.

That's just a normal strut socket and won't work. The issue here is the wiring and harness coming out the top of the strut. I think I'm going to have to de-pin the connector to be able to get it apart.

Looks like you need something like an O2 sensor socket.

Been looking into this to do my own. The Audi service manual (not easy to post the graphic, sorry) calls out a couple of tools:
    - T10001/3 - a passthrough socket for the outer nut. Unfortunately out-of-stock on the SnapOn manufacturer tool store: https://audi.snapon.com/SpecialTools...temId=17440108
    - 1332/7 - torque wrench adapter for the socket
    - T40255 - 9 mm holder for the shaft, has wrench flats on the top. Available on the SnapOn manufacturer store: https://vw.snapon.com/SpecialToolsDe...temid=36840108

The procedure says to remove the protective boot and housing connector from the wire so you can pass it through the socket.

What size is the outer nut? FCP Euro has strut nut sockets in a couple of different sizes, here's a 19mm: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/19m...t-cta-3039x04; they have other sizes from 16-24mm.

I used this for my rear shocks on my A7.

I de-pinned the connector but totally destroyed the purple locking tab in the process so I need to pick one up tomorrow. The part number is 1J0 973 802.

I ended up running to Harbor Freight and picking up an offset box wrench kit. The top nut is 18mm. I broke the nut loose with just the 18mm and then used a 9mm open-ended wrench on the top of the strut to hold it in place while removing the nut the rest of the way.

I realized I need to order a different strut mount as well. 4G0513353D and 4G0513353C are stamped on my original mount and I ordered 4G0513353D. However, the "D" part number is only correct if you don't have air suspension/dynamic ride control. 4G0513353C has a larger pass-through to accommodate the dynamic strut.
