    Question HUD - Shift lights

Are the shift lights in the HUD meant to me much dimmer than the rest of the display or is mine displaying wrong?

No one uses their HUD in manual mode?

Speed limit, engine temp, lap timer are all bright and visible, the shift lights above are far dimmer white, and barely visible? Do others see the same?

Thanks for confirmation (b9.5 too)...seems strange. Not that they're particularly useful.

Is the hud different between the b9 and b9.5? i think its pretty visible once the shift bar lights up as you get closer to red line.

Anything could have been tweaked in the programming at any time. But also, the B9.5 use different HUD units. MY18/MY19 is 8W6919617. MY20 is 8W6919617D. MY21+ is 8W6919617F. What does that mean? No idea. And that assumes the difference observed is not due to current car state or personal settings or individual interpretation.

Is it safe to assume that the shift lights feature is only available on the RS models? The only thing I've observed in the few times I've used our S5's HUD is that polarized sunglasses seriously dim the HUD display's brightness, even when turned up all the way.

HUD and sunglasses will all be about the polarization angle of the HUD and the sunglasses. If they are the same, no problem. If they are 90° off, you'll see nothing. If you tilt your head 90° over (put your ear on your shoulder), does it brighten up?

Yep, they're Maui Jim prescription polarized sunglasses and a 90° rotation does indeed brighten the HUD display up. Fortunately though, Ohio has so many cloudy days that I don't wear sunglasses as much as when I don't! That said, does the S5 HUD display shift lights?

Thanks for sharing that video with the shift lights on the RS models. I get the speed limit sign and current speed. Checking the settings in the MMI for the HUD, I see Nav Display (set to "always"), Traffic Signs (set to "On"), Efficiency Assist (set to "on") and Driver Assistance (set to "on"). I can't recall seeing much on the HUD except for the Speed Limit sign and the current speed. Haven't used the Audi navigation (use Waze mostly) but can envision seeing turn by turn arrows and distances if the Audi nav was in use. It's not clear what the Efficiency Assist and Driver's Assistance HUD displays do for my non-RS car, but they're options I have turned on in the MMI.
