    CarPlay and Nav together

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey all - The compass showing on the virtual cockpit while using CarPlay has always frustrated me.

Saw this post in a Facebook group and wanted to see if anyone here has done this or can validate. I’ve done lots of coding before but am new to MIB.

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/1375...ibextid=W9rl1R

How to enable Apple CarPlay and nav at the same time:

    Installation:

    1.Download the mib2-toolbox

2 archive. Unzip it to the root of the SD card

1.Insert the card into the head unit (SD 1 slot)

2.Go to the Red Menu. On Audi Q7, Q5, A5, A4, TT, A3, hold the two Navi keys up and The Media down for 10-15 seconds, if the menu does not start, repeat the process. Exit the red menu just Like Navi Up and Media Down 10-15 seconds.

3.Red Menu > update the > sd1> standard > go to the bottom of the list and update the software. The GU will restart several times. At the very end, as everything will be updated, click "Interrupt the re-documentation". Exit the Red Menu.

4.Go to the Green Developer Menu. On Audi Q7, Q5, A5, A4, TT, A3, hold the two Navi keys up and The Media up for 10-15 seconds, if the menu does not start, repeat the process. You can exit the Green Developer Menu simply by clicking the "BACK" button.

    5.Enter m.i.b > navigation > navactiveignore

    6.Select Enable dual navigation

    7.The device will reboot itself.

Yeah not sure about updating my own software. Aren't there like tons of different versions? What if you load a file not compatible with your MMI?

That was my concern too… how do you confirm the version ahead of time and ensure you load the right one?

I really want to do this but want to ensure I understand it fully first.

I know… I just copied and pasted the text from the original post but in the comments several people provided the source link.

Download link aside, I’m still trying to confirm this here… mostly with respect to the software version question.

I’m just surprised I haven’t seen this on these forums recently so just trying to confirm. That compass sucks lol

The instructions on the GitHub look decent enough. Provides some software levels you need to be at. Wonder if there's a YT vid out there.

I did it earlier today. So easy and worth it. You really only need a 2gb SD card. I followed this video:

    https://youtu.be/eAQgzYlnSrA

MIB shows VIM as an option, which I flashed, but haven't confirmed it works. There's also an option to bring back Google maps, but mentions it doesn't work for everyone (it didn't for mine unfortunately). I'd say, overall, it took me about 30 minutes to do and I messed with the program another 30 minutes to see what it had to offer.

    Worth it in my opinion

I wrote up instructions on the other Audi forum.

The instructions are for loading M.I.B. and then getting goodies. The first is unlimited map updates.

Further down the thread are instructions for enabling VIM.

Next up in the thread is dual Nav, which is what you're asking for.

The dual mav is currently part of a between official releases version. But once you've loaded M.I.B, going to the next version is only a matter of updating your SD card that hold the files (not needed in the SD slot when done making changes).

Use the official Github link for M.I.B and to get latest version... except if you want dual nav, follow the post under discussions which have a link to the non-release 3 4.4 version. Or wait on dual nav until it's official.

I personally don't even know which compass you're talking about haha. Is this on the Regular cluster layout or the Sport layout?
Would this make it so google maps from carplay goes onto the dash as well, or does this just let you use the cars nav along side carplay? Only asking because I only ever use google maps or Waze.

LOL.. Its a goofy big ass compass that will appear in the VC map panel if you have the nav screen open on VC and you then start a route in CarPlay or Android Auto in something like Waze. It doesnt do it on B9.5, but did on B9

Tried it out today, no dice for me on the 18 S4 P+ w/ B&O sound. The green screen in mib initially had it set to a 1 kph cutoff, despite the return to default option showing 6 kph. Changed it to 199, reboot, shows 199, but cuts out at 1 kph. So must not work with all hardware or there's some other firmware thing going on.

Did you have the SD with the M.I.B. files in the SD1 slot when making the change in the Green menu and did you get a success confirmation message?

You need to go into the advanced_coding menu and set Video Speed limit, then choose the "calculate checksum for dataset..." option for the changes to stick. I believe it gives a confirmation message. Plus I believe you need to reboot the MMI (per the confirmation, I think).

Keep at it. It should work for your MMI version.

Yes I have the SD card in the SD 1 slot, I've not taken it out. I loaded maps and videos on the second SD slot on a larger card. So here is what I did:

    1. Did all the whole normal install process, backup, flashing, etc... through SD 1.
    2. I went into the VIM menu and selected the 199 KPH limit.
    3. The MMI rebooted. Didn't seem to work after, but I also went out later so the MMI had to reboot while the car was parked.

I'll try the advanced coding menu, I haven't tried that yet, maybe that will be what fixes it.

EDIT: Yea that didn't work either. It was set to 199 in the advanced screen already and clicking calculate checksum for dataset just crashed into a scary RCC Emergency Flash Utility 30.951 screen after reboot and then rebooted again. I think that screen is just for fine tuning the various safety timers as they related to speed for things like menus, etc... I don't think it does anything else clever that just clicking 199 on the previous screen doesn't do as far as VIM. Note the VCDS VIM coding doesn't work with my MMI either.

You're probably right about the advanced_coding menu. I had problems because I had removed the SD card initially and tried everything to get it to work.

What's your MMI version? Mine is 1316. If yours is lower, perhaps an update to 1316 would get you there. Unfortunate that something is getting in the way. Perhaps posting to the M.I.B dev's Github would get you a response. There's an active discussion area.

Yea that's what AldermanToffee was suggesting too. I did post in github as well, will see what I find out. I'll check my software version later.

I'm having trouble loading the updated maps. I can't get passed the stock firmware error message.
I've flashed to my backup and still not working. Anyone know where to get the stock firmware to download?

    Edit:
Just realized it's all on mibsolution.one, just needed the login info

So does the Dual Nav mod simply just remove compass from the screen in dash? Any other benefit of it?

It allows you to run a navigation route with CarPlay or Android Auto while keeping the Audi map visible and updated in the VC. Are a few reasons why you’d want to do this

Great writeup. I haven't messed with stuff like this since I used to run custom ROM's on android phones (I think the S4 was the last one I messed with). Once 3.4.4 is official I think I'm gonna give it a go in my car, then if all goes well move on to my wife's.

These are full size SD's, right? Not MicroSD?

Definitely interested in this as well. Especially if and when 3.4.4 is official. And yes, great question on the SD card size.

Correct, full size SDs. I just bought another card on Amazon - the SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I ($23) - so I can keep a permanent copy of the files on my existing card.

I haven't tried it yet - I've been waiting for 3.4.4 to be a release version. From what I can tell, you get both showing routes. You have a choice of dual prompts or just an MMI prompt depending on which you start first. Here's according to the dev:

Start car navigation 1st if you want to have dual navigation.

Start navigation on CP -> VC shows map, MMI shows map -> start navigation on MMI -> CP navigation stops, VC shows route, MMI shows route
Start navigation on MMI -> start navigation on CP -> CP & MMI navigations active, VC shows route, MMI shows route
You can follow the discussion of the 3.4.4 build progress on Github.

Thanks for the link. Looks like a java updated file tested so hopefully a new release soon.

Was not able to update maps unfortunately, when out in SD card says no updates found. Maybe I have the files in the card incorrectly? Do I need both Mib1 and Mib2 folders in the root if SD card? Was using a different SD card from the other Mib bash files.

Not sure what I am doing wrong about the maps update, but it tells me no update found. I have tried with both a micro sd and also with a full size one, both say the same.

Current version I have shows as MHI2Q_US_AUG22_P5087

I can confirm for MHI2Q_US_AUG22_P5087, MU SOFTWARE: 1316 that the dual nav patch included with M.I.B v3.5.0 worked.

So the patch is now official and can be had straight from the MIB Github? Looks like 3.5 was released 2 weeks ago.

    Worked great on the S5.

Busted out a new SD card and followed all the steps again for the Q7 and no dice there. Went to patch the aio file and it said it's only available for stock firmware :\ The 17 Q7 is on P3252 and I don't see a patch file for that. Opened an issue on Github.

Has anyone been able to get satellite view back with this? I didn't see any options for it in the GEM.

Sent from my Samsung smart air fryer
