Brilliant black color - experience, photos and color change

    Hi,

as i couldnt choose the color (bought a used car) - its Audi A3 Sport (s-tronic) in Brilliant Black.

At first i thought there were no major differences between Mythos black (metallic) and i was hoping it would be "almost similar" to Mythos.
I cant find A3 photos with side by side brlliant black vs. mythos black.

Are there any "brilliant black" owners here - whats your experience with this paint? (sensitive, too "dark", not enough glossy shine or looks too "greasy"?)

In the end, has anyone tried car wrappng on Audi A3?
This seems like an alternative way to change the color. Not sure about the final look effect: silver glossy or metallic wrap foil - possible to tell the difference between paint job?

hey there, while not an 8V, I recently bought a 4L generation Q7 in brilliant black. my rs3 is mythos. brilliant black is not a metallic color, so you dont have the metallic flake in the paint like mythos does. when the brilliant black paint is clean, free of swirls (paint correction), and ceramic coated, it's color is a very deep and glossy black.

on the topic of wrapping a car, many people have done it, and probably with an A3. very high end wraps (parts and labor) are hard to tell if they are a wrap or paint, but 99% of the time, you can tell if a car is wrapped or painted

Have brilliant black when its clean waxed and ceramic coated its like a mirror. Love it

The only down side to the wraps is that they can mess up the original paint. Especially if you have any kind of pitting. ive seen wraps peel the paint down to bare metal upon removal.

The B5 is Brilliant Black, the 8V is Mythos Black Metallic.

I wont perform car wrapping. Brilliant black is actually really nice color - glossy and fits the car.
Only downside of brilliant black is - extreme car washing intervals :) Im thinking of waxing the car so it prolongues the glossy shine little longer.

I have Brilliant Black and my car is as shiny and glossy as the day I bought it. I was actually complimented the other day by my co-worker on how shiny my car looks. What most likely helps maintain my paint is that it's always garaged when I'm home, I work evenings so my car is not parked under the sun for hours, and I microfiber sponge and cloth when I wash my car. Not everyone has the luxury of a garage or parking garage for work. I'd probably ceramic coat or atleast wax my car if I knew my car would be out under the sun for hours, especially in hotter climates.

If you ever have to get repairs done, the mythos black is very hard for shops to match exactly while the Brilliant black should be much easier. Anything with metallic is tough... I used to paint cars and metallic silver was the worst!

I had to have my Mythos Black quarter panel and rear bumper repainted. The work was done by a reputable Audi/Porsche authorized shop and when you catch the light right it is obvious that the panels don't have original paint.
