    B8.5 & B8: Compatible Parts Question

    Hi all,

I recently purchased a 2011 B8 S4. It needs some work and curious if I can source some of those parts from a B8.5. Here's what I need to replace.

Rear Bumper: If sourced from A4, would need the dual exhaust diffuser, but otherwise works?
    Rear TailLight: OK if A4?
Full rear suspension (Cv axle, control arms, tie rods, springs, etc) all of it. WOULD ONLY SOURCE FROM A B8.5 S4.

S4 would only source the suspension (if possible), but could I get A4 for others?

Am I correct to takeaway that it's only related to the front-end?

Thanks for any advise in advance.

A4 and S4 are the same thing from a chassis parts perspective. Parts for FN0 (S model) vs FM0 (A model) are of course different. Parts for V6 equipped vs I4 equipped are of course different. But the door handle in a A4, same thing in an S4. Rear tail light in an A4, same thing in an S4 (if they are both the same regarding US vs ROW / sedan vs wagon / incandescent vs LED/ B8.0 vs B8.5, as these are the differentiators in the various tail lamp parts on the B8 generation A4/S4). MY11 US sedan will be US, sedan, LED, B8.0; A4 vs S4 is not a differentiator.

B8.0 and B8.5 are not the same on the front end, and are not the same on the rear end for the sedan. A4 s-line and S4 use the same bumper covers, just different trim components (grills, spoiler, inserts, etc). But A4 standard uses different bumper covers. So stick to B8.0 A4 s-line and S4 for bumper parts on the front and rear ends.

Suspension is the same, except maybe for the M12/M14 ball joint thing on the front end lower arms. Lower curved (guide link) was M14 by MY11, but lower straight (control arm) didn't go M14 till into MY12 (mid Aug 2011).

So to use the B8.5 lower straight, part 1, you're going to need the matching ball joint, part 20.

Thank you!!! On the rear bumper, couldn't I get a B8 A4 rear bumper WITH a different diffuser to accomodate quad exhaust?

A4 standard uses a different bumper cover.
A4 s-line uses the same bumper cover.
That's the extent of what I'm saying.

@paulouis If you are patient enough, you will find whether parts for different models are exact match here: https://audi.7zap.com/en/usa/

Non-exact match use will have to come from prior experience.
