Do knock sensors go bad often?

I'm changing the thermostat out and see the 2 knock sensors. It looks like they'd be a pain to replace normally but I can easily do it now. This engine has 90k miles on it. I don't want to spend the money to replace them if they don't go bad often. Does anyone have any experience with them?

In 12+ years of tinkering on VAG engines i've only ever seen one knock sensor go bad on a 1.8T, and it was probably loose, then over torqued and cracked, sensor itself was probably fine but giving erratic readings due to mounting tab/bolt hole.

They are usually pretty stout, i'd say skip it.

Short answer is no. The only time Ive had an issue with them in my car was when the mechanic pulled out the wires by accident. Just replace it with an OEM sensor and nothing aftermarket
