A4 B9.5 MIB3 smartphone interface retrofit

Hi, I own an A4 B9.5 that comes with the touchscreen MIB3 yet it does not have Audi Smartphone interface (CarPlay). Talking to the dealer they said yea my car was part of a batch that did not have the feature activated and they have no idea how it can be activated or retrofitted. I’ve been trying to find a retrofit solution but no success so far. Someone told me that these features are enabled through the app through functions on demand but unfortunately my car doesn’t have Audi Connect so the myAudi app cannot connect to and make any modifications to my car. Mind you that my car is the S Line trim (not S4) so the highest trim in the A4 model. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Probably be easier to get the full PR codes list for your VIN and figure out what exactly your car has, then try to decipher how to try to transition to what you want your car to have. Functions on Demand is FP1; if you have FP0, you don't even have Functions on Demand. Etc.

"Batch that did not have the feature activated"? You either paid for the feature or you didn't. MIB3 smartphone interface is IUx, where x depends on the region. Europe is IU1 I believe, US is IU2. No idea what it is there.

So 8W0051472 doesn't work for MIB3?

The part 8W0051472 doesn’t list my car model unfortunately. I checked the pr codes of my car and it doesn’t list CarPlay. Also I got into the engineering screen of my MIB3 and on the activation codes list it does not list the code 00060800 which is for CarPlay. It is very weird that my Audi dealer says they don’t have a way to activate CarPlay on my car. I’m the same engineering screen there is an option that says Feature import but I have no idea how it can be used to add a non existent activation code.

I'm not that familiar with the MIB3 stuff as I don't have a B9.5. But there's nothing to be "not included in the build", as it's just an enable/disable toggle inside the software, as long as you have MMI navigation or MMI navigation plus. So no idea what the dealership people were actually trying to say. I don't know what you mean by "doesn't list Carplay", as no PR code description is going to have the word Carplay in it. It's Audi Smartphone Interface. But it won't be listed if the feature was not considered paid for in the factory build.

It could be that Feature on Demand might be present but unable to function because there's no active Audi Connect subscription. It could be something related to the cellular connection infrastructure (J949) is missing. What are you complete PR codes list? Scan of the vehicle shows the J949 ConBox (75-Telematics) is present?

So that's the vehicle identification sticker, commonly called the PR codes sticker. It contains only about 1/3 of the all the PR codes for the VIN. You can get the full PR codes list for the VIN from a dealership or anyone with partslink24 access. A lot of infotainment system minor codes are only in the full list.

7Q0 - without navigation

That's the only infotainment/communication related PR code on the abbreviated list on that sticker. You'd need to hit up the dealership for the complete PR codes list for the VIN to get any real idea about the communications related PR codes (I'm also curious in a few of the unlisted drivetrain related PR codes for that DEMA engine; post up the complete list if you get it).

It would also be of interest to do a full scan with something like VCDS to confirm what control modules are present in the car. If the J949 is there, then the car has the connectivity capability. The J949 handles Bluetooth as well; do you have Bluetooth handsfree capability and does it work?
