    Fuel Economy Experiences 8Y RS3?

When I first got my car, I was getting around 230 miles before needing to refill (say 1/8 of a tank). The car was telling me I was getting about 19 MPG. I've had the car for 4 months. Now, my car is telling me I am averaging about 25 MPG over the life of ownership. Problem is, I regularly fill the car and put about 12 to 12.5 gallons into the tank. I now get about 240 miles (sometimes 250) per fill. If I divide 240 to 250 by 12 to 12.5, that tells me my real world mileage is closer to 20MPG not the 25 the car is reading. I didn't expect the car computer to be perfect but it's pretty far off. At 25 MPG, I should be getting 300 miles on 12 gallons of fuel. What are others experiencing?

I get about 230 on a full tank, but I have a lot of stops, and occasionally drive like a maniac.

Mine used to read about 400 on a full take. The remaining miles usually read lower than what's true though. I get 6 or so MPG on the track, and it reads 34 MPG+ after when I drive home, so average is between those two numbers .

I do think the predicted will just be lower than actual. The prediction is conservative, and based on recent driving habits. When I'm driving normally and compare my distance to the range remaining, I usually exceed the expectations. On the track though, I'm dropping 10+ miles each 2.7 mile lap.

I'm seeing 24-25 mpg with mostly highway driving (in comfort mode). Drops some in dynamic.

Is that actual measured or the computer? How does the computer read in comparison ?

400 on a tank is never happening in this car. After a refuel mine says 375 but I get about 240 real world. Big difference.

    Yep. 230 if I’m aggressive. 240 normal. 250 granny.

My Mk7 GTI is insanely optimistic about its mileage. The computer consistently reads 3-4 mpg above reality. I've never had a car be anywhere near this inaccurate. I realize it's not an 8Y RS3, but it wouldn't surprise me if all MQB cars use the same mileage calculate hardware and software.

Actual (I compulsively calculate mpg at each fill up since I bought the car; computer is so off its laughable).

This is my experience. Computer is off by 5 mpg high. Laughable.

I always do the calculations on paper and my own calculator. The computer is "ok" but they are sometimes off, the best example would be going down hill or idling while stopped. cruising downhill the gas mileage goes very high, idling the gas mileage drops dramatically although you are not even "on the gas" that is why doing your own math is the way to go.

My mk7 GSW 4Mo was also 3-4 mpg optimistic from the factory. I was able to change the consumption calculation percentage using obd11 and now it's normally less than 1 mpg different between hand calculation and what shows on the computer.

Oooooohhhh, I didn't know you could change that calculation via OBD11. Might have to look into that... but I'll probably be too lazy.

This is a 2 liter turbo car with 400hp stock - I do a victory dance if it hits 15mpg consistently lol. Ya'll that modify these - do you just convert the trunk to a giant gastank?

Bumping this. Last tank - computer says 25.2, actual mileage 19.75. What is going on with the computer that it is that far off from reality? It’s 2023. Audi should have a better computer estimator. It’s comically off.

For comparison I get about 15-17 mpg with E85 on long freeway drives. I'll take that vs yuck 91 oct and only getting a few mpg more.

These look very consistent with mine. I do very little highway driving.

Maybe I just drive very easily when I'm not hooning, but I've averaged 25mpg over the last 40k miles and my trip to Niagara from Warrenton, VA I got 398 miles to a tank. Now I was using ACC for that trip but had it at 5-10 mph over the speed limit consistently.

I haven't stopped and checked, but just half paying attention to miles/tank vs. displayed fuel economy, I would agree and I'm seeing the same as you in my 2023, @clerkPalmer. I'm a little disappointed in the fuel economy, honestly. It's a 2.5t... My old 99 Corvette with a 5.7L would do just as well on the highway. Obviously I didn't buy this car to minimize fuel use. But, I did have a B58 Supra at one point and that thing really did sip fuel. Performance is the priority, but I can appreciate when an engine accomplishes both depending on driving style. 6 mpg on the track and 35 mpg for the trip home. The taller 8th gear overdrive and lack of AWD helped, surely. But it was a slight shame to take a step back in fuel economy to not really have any more power.

Also, unpopular opinion, I'd be happy to have stop/start. It was very well implemented in the DSG Mk8 Golf R I briefly owned. Brake lightly enough to come to a quick stop and keep the engine on. Press harder at a long light and it shuts off. Would appreciate improving the fuel economy in this convenient way personally, since it can be so well implemented with a DCT.

As of 1/19/23 we are still getting 28.2 MPG from our 2019 Audi RS 3
now at 43,579 miles of which 31,377 miles have been fast country
back roads run 10am-2pm, 3 days a week as weather permits.

Only change has been the tire configuration, which is now using
    18-inch wheels/tires, involving Nuespeed RSe10 18x8.5 wheels
and 245/40/18 Michelin Pilot Sport AS3+ soon to be replaced
with new tires as current tread depth is 2.5 mm via depth guage.
Our fast back road drives consumed the tread depth fairly rapidly.

PICTURES HAVE BEEN POSTED IN OUR GALLARY

Michelin All Season 4 245/40/18 waiting in the garage on new
Neuspeed RSe10 18x8.5 wheels wiating to be mounted on the
    RS 3.

The '245' sidewall height is necessary to survive the country
back road runs we make, which have less than good quality
pavement surface, or decent quality repairs made! The stock
235/30/19 tires lasted 3 days! We're 55 miles west of
Washington D.C. in Loudoun County Virginia.
