    3.2 VR6 common issues

    Hey,
    I recently got a 2008 TT 3.2. I was curious if anybody has any insight into the engine in terms of common issues or parts to replace proactively.

    I wish I have a VR6. It's a timing chain driven double overhead cam. Instead of the quad cam in may V6 and V8, VR6 only has one intake cam and one exhaust cam for all 6 cylinders and naturally aspirated - ingeniously simple and elegant design.

    There are only two chains in VR6 and a single tensioner, compared to the 2.0T's 3 chains and 2 tensioners. If I have a high mileage VR6 TT, I would take the engine out and refresh the cam chain, the tensioner and all chain guides (5).

    There is no turbo, no waste gate, no diverter valve, no intercooler, no carbon build-up from direct injection.

    That’s a lot of good info thanks. I had heard that they have some issues with the guides and tensioner. What would you consider “high mileage/kms” for a 2008 Vr6 24V?

    Any other preventative maintenance?

    120,000 miles or more. However, 2008 models are already 14 going on 15 years old. Those timing chain guides are mostly plastic would become brittle, so should be replaced. If you take the engine out, you should also replace the rear main seal. Other usual parts refresh would be water pump, thermal stat, etc.

    Before taking the engine a part, test oil pressure and cylinder compression.
