Custom Order Updates from Audi Experience

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey Everyone - I have searched around and seen some posts pre-pandemic regarding the timelines of custom orders with respect to the emails received from Audi, but wanted to see if anyone has more recent experience to help me understand my situation.

August 30th, 2022 - Placed an order for a '23 S5 Sportback. Was told then that the dealer did not yet have an allocation and I would get an update once they did.

September 30th, 2022 - Received email from Audi that my order was in. Reached out to my dealer and confirmed this, was told that my build date was scheduled for March 26th, 2023

December 28th, 2022 - Received email from Audi that my car was in Production. Reached out to my dealer, from what they can see I am "on schedule" for build date of March 26th.

Looking for input from anyone with recent experience or insight on the accuracy of these emails. Trying to figure out who was the right information

    Thanks in advance.

My experience with those emails are they are nice to get but not necessarily real time. On my order, I didn't receive the 1st one but that's probably because I changed an existing order the dealer already had in. I did get 2, 3 and 4 but they seemed to be delayed by weeks from the info my salesman was giving me. I never did get the 5th one. I did read on another thread somewhere that "In Production" just means it's locked for changes. I don't know if that's the case or not but I remember it coming from what I think is a reliable source.

That would make sense, and explain the discrepancy between the email and what my dealer told me.

We placed our order for a '23 S5 Sportback on August 23rd, a day after our SA told us that they had a allocation for an A5 and S5 available. We've gotten the first 3 of the Audi Experience emails so far. I've listed the dates for those below the dates you've posted below in bold, blue text.

I verified with our SA that the car now has a VIN number assigned and that he'll let us know what car carrier vessel it will be assigned to for the trip from Emden. It looks like delivery will occur in late January or possibly early February. We're not having any port-installed options (e.g., door edge guards, etc.) so hopefully it gets on a truck to Ohio sooner rather than later. I think the key to this timeline was getting one of the allocations that the dealer got in August. We had been on a waiting list for an RS3 order, but after a couple of months of never getting closer than 4th on the waitlist, we decided to go with ordering the S5 Sportback in District Green. We considered getting an Exclusive paint, but were warned that the build time could be delayed by 2 months or more. Also the AE paint had increased from the $2500 that our Jet Blue S4 cost in 2010 to $5900 -- a real disincentive!

Hopefully the pace will pick up on your order and that the info above is helpful.

Super helpful info, thanks for this!

Makes me wonder - your car left the factory almost exactly 3 months after you got the production email. I got my production email on Dec 28th which is 3 months from the March 26th date my dealer gave me... I wonder if the March 26th date is when the car is expected to leave the factory.

Time will tell. All I know is that I'm ready for the wait to be over!

February 2nd, 2023 - Received an email from Audi that my car is leaving the factory and will be in transit soon. Reached out to dealer and they're expecting the car to be here sometime in April. No window sticker available yet.

Good to hear that some progress has occurred with your order. Here's the Audi Experience emails we got through the arrival at the dealer, to give you some sense of the dates:

December 23rd, 2022 - Received email from Audi Experience saying our Audi S5 Sportback is leaving the factory. Up next: Your vehicle will be in transit.

January 7th, 2023 - Received email from Audi Experience saying our Audi S5 Sportback is in transit. Up next: Your vehicle will arrive in the U.S.

January 24th, 2023 - Our sales associate contacted us to say our S5 would be arriving in the next few days. I believe it arrived at the dealership on the 26th.

January 27th, 2023 - Received email from Audi Experience saying your dealer will be contacting you. The fun is about to start. The wait is over.

January 30th, 2023 - Went to the dealership and got to see the car in the showroom, met with the dealer's financial rep to pay for it, signed up for Audi Care and windshield damage coverage (we're on the 4th windshield on our S4 so felt it was worth it with the cost of OEM glass and camera/sensor calibration labor. The weather was snowy and freezing drizzle so postponed picking up the car until Wednesday February 1st. Wasn't taking a chance driving 70 miles on 20" black optics wheels with summer performance tires in that weather.

January 30th, 2023 - Received email from Audi Experience saying our Audi Connect trial has been activated.

February 2nd, 2023 - Received email from Audi Experience saying "Welcome to the thrill of Audi ownership. The Audi legacy is yours. Where will you take it?

February 3rd, 2023 - Received email from Audi of America requesting feedback on our Audi S5 Sportback purchase experience.

Hope you find this sequence of information helpful. I had been able to acquire the car's VIN and Comm Numbers from our sales rep on December 27th, and with that information, I contacted Audi of America's Customer Experience Center (800-822-2834 prompt 9) and was able to get an emailed copy of the Monroney Label (window sticker) for our car in PDF format. They were quite friendly and helpful.

Good luck on getting your car soon. We love ours although have only had it for a couple of days. And a post needs a pic ... (with our "Old Blue" in the background) ...

She's beautiful! District Green was one of my initial picks before deciding to stick with white.

Appreciate the info - I was wondering if I would be getting another email once the car is actually in transit and seems like that is the case so I'll keep an eye out for that next.

    Enjoy it!

Window sticker has been generated. As I understand, that means that the car is in the US and has gone through port processing.

Was able to talk with a bit more experienced person at another dealer who told me that I should expect another few weeks of waiting as the car will be shipped via train to a local depot and delivered by truck to the dealer from there.

Having a window sticker makes things feel a bit more real.

Our cars were on the same ship.

They’ve completely f***** my delivery schedule. Some clown at the port scuffed a wheel.
Not a big deal, let me get my car so I can get the PPF, tint, ceramic coating, etc done to the car, and by then the replacement wheel will be at the dealer.

    NOPE.

They’re treating the port like it’s an oil rich sovereign nation…no one can touch the beloved port.

    Delivery ETA was 3/10-3-15.

After losing my mind they’ve made an exception to the protocol by getting a wheel from a parts center. They hope to have the wheel changed out by 3/24….9 days to change a wheel out….

Delivery ETA? No one knows. NO ONE. Best part? It’s 2 hour drive from the port to my local dealer…..

This is heartbreaking to read .

I wonder if it's some sort of insurance issue since it happened at the port - if it leaves the port like that they will just deny it ever happened to try and get out of paying for it...who knows.

At least you are seeing some progress, although 9 days to get the wheel changed out is ridiculous. Hopefully you won't have to wait to long once it's done since your dealer is so close. Best of luck.

Update - received a call from my salesman on 3/27 letting me know that the car had been delivered - made an appointment to come write everything up and take it home on 3/28.

I have only had it for a few hours but wow, it is even better than I thought it would be. The pictures really don't do it justice. Glad to be a part of the S5 family!

Attached some pics of the new car next to my old one.

Congratulations! Great color combo of white with the red interior and black optics. Now the fun begins and you get to figure out all the new options, technologies and the many other differences from the S4. I've been using Waze via Carplay since we got ours a couple of months ago. I just tried using the Audi navigation this afternoon and was amazed how easy it was to enter a destination and then seeing the nav indicators in the heads up display and a mini version inside the dash's speedo display, in addition to the MMI screen. I foresee a lot of exploring of the features before I can say I know everything our new S5 is capable of. Enjoy the ride and happy yours is finally home!

I have only had it for a few hours but wow, it is even better than I thought it would be. The pictures really don't do it justice. Glad to be a part of the S5 family!

Attached some pics of the new car next to my old one.

Yup - have been learning a ton of stuff so far and there is still a ton left to go! Been using android auto so far (mostly just for spotify etc., haven't needed to use nav yet) but looking forward to using the Audi nav to see how it looks in the HUD.

Also, laser lights kicked in for the first time driving home tonight - it's crazy how far down the road they light up.

Was able to talk with a bit more experienced person at another dealer who told me that I should expect another few weeks of waiting as the car will be shipped via train to a local depot and delivered by truck to the dealer from there.

Having a window sticker makes things feel a bit more real.
how did you get to know that sticker has been generated?

When I ordered my car and got confirmation the car was built, my salesman provided the VIN. I then purchased the Monroney Label online and had it before I got the car.

Pretty much the same thing I did. As I understand, once the car goes through port processing in the U.S., the window sticker is available. When I was informed that the car had arrived at the port, I started checking each day to see if the sticker was available and once it was, I purchased it.

Here is the site I used: https://www.withclutch.com/post/audi-window-sticker
