What is Best Diagnostic/Reader OBDII for 2017 SQ5?

I am looking for a solid performing unit for home use.

Changing brakes, EPB open/close, battery change, reset service indicators, etc.

Heard OBDEleven is good. Autel have been mentioned. What is most widely used, brands and models?

Going to be doing brakes soon, so that will be first use.

Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Ross-Tech VCDS (Vag Com Diagnostic System) would be the normal go to. https://store.ross-tech.com/shop/vchv2_ent/
Need a Windows laptop to run it on.

OBDeleven is the fall back if you just have mobile devices (iOS/Android) to run it on. https://obdeleven.com/en/products-page
Since VoltasIT still haven't added battery adaptation as a service action, you have to have the $50/yr PRO subscription to do that.
And don't ever say yes if it asks to restore the CAN gateway installation list.

Autel is good if you need a multivendor tool. Lot more expensive for an equivalent tool, but as noted, multivender, and a self-contained tablet.

Carista can be used as well. https://caristaapp.com/
Cheap subscription you can turn on and off monthly as you need it. But it's code presentation is a lot less quality than VCDS.

    Thanks for the reply.

I really thought I'd see a lot more recommendations but yours seems to hit all the boxes.

    Have a great New Year

If you don’t mind spending the $$ VCDS is really the best option. In my opinion any VW/Audi owner who does any DIY should have one.

Budget is really the only reason to consider others, which is valid, if you don’t already have a windows lappy price of entry can be high.

I am a Apple user, I got a cheap $300 Lenovo laptop, it only comes out for VCDS use so it sits a bit, hence it misses updates, battery goes dead, so it has become a pain. I did a bad job of keeping the machine in proper condition so now it’s time for a replacement. So, if it’s a VCDS only lappy that’s something to consider.

Doing the rear brakes just once will more than pay for the VCDS tool. For one thing, you enter the new pad's thickness, then the stepper motor is adapted to them. The controller then "knows" how many pulses it takes to set the brakes. When that number gets high enough, it means time to alert for new pads.
