C7.5 Sport Exhaust (black tips) mufflers onto C7 S6

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Guys,

I have a '13 S6 and a guy locally is selling the mufflers off his C7.5 sport exhaust. Aside from having to extend the wires for the valve on the driver's side, any other issues that you can think of? Will changing the muffler's only to the sport exhaust make any noticeable improvement in sound? I would like the car to sound a little bit more aggressive, but I really don't want it to be loud or have a drone...which is why I've stayed away from aftermarket options for the time being.

If it won't make a difference without the entire sport exhaust system, I'm not going to do this just to get black tips. Thanks for any advice!

the sport is the same as the non-sport....only black tips.

you're best bang is to remove the center section and replace the suitcase with the X-pipe from a custom shop, or any of the pre-fab ones out there.

Are you certain? I'm not so sure that's the case (but willing to be corrected, of course). A lot of folks with C7.5s have commented on a pretty dramatic sound difference. My question was whether or not that difference is attributable to the mufflers themselves, or rather the resonator/pipes, etc.

I could be wrong, but what Ive looked at there isnt much difference with them other than asthetics....I wouldnt see anything with a deeper tone as you still have the mid pipe resonators, the suitcase, and then the mufflers.

Having driven both standard and Sport Exhaust-equipped S6s of the C7.5 generation, I can definitely confirm the Sport Exhaust sounds dramatically different.

Whether that sound is derived only from the muffler section is unknown to me, however an inspection of the microfiche gives us a clue. There are two individual part numbers for each of the mufflers (Left, 4G0-253-609-K and 4G0-253-609-CB, and Right, 4G0-253-610-K and 4G0-253-610-CB), and two individual part numbers for the center resonator/suitcase (4G0-253-409-BG and 4G0-253-409-K). One part number (those ending in -K) indicates compatibility for 2013-2018, and the other (ending in -CB) indicates compatibility for 2016-2018. Considering the overlap of years, combined with the (I believe) fact that the Sport Exhaust option was introduced in 2016, I would infer that the -CB parts are for the Sport Exhaust, which at least implies that the Sport Exhaust is comprised of different mufflers AND a different center resonator.

From all that, I would not expect that swapping just the mufflers would get you the full Sport Exhaust experience. However as others have said, adding the Sport mufflers and swapping your center resonator for an X pipe will actually get you more sound than the stock Sport Exhaust, so you might consider doing that anyway. After all, you'll have to get someone to weld on the mufflers anyway, so it'd likely be very little additional money to weld in an X pipe.

THIS is incredibly helpful info. Thanks for taking the time. As I noted above, I really don't want a "loud" exhaust - just for it to sound better and more aggressive (if that makes sense). I also really don't want any drone...at all. Finally, the last bit I didn't say above, is that I also would prefer that the back of the car be dominated by huge exhaust tips. This is one of the reasons I was interested in this sport muffler option when it came up.

That said, would putting in an X-pipe in place of the center suitcase resonator make the car significantly louder or drone on the freeway? Thanks again for your info!!!

Unfortunately I do not have firsthand experience with this exact setup so I can't say for sure. What I can tell you is that even with APR downpipes and an AWE Touring system, I had zero drone. I ended up selling the AWE system and going back to my OEM Sport system, and combined with the APR downpipes I think the sound is the perfect balance of volume and refinement. I also added a CETE valve controller so I have more control over the volume for any situation.

Best thing you can do is scour YouTube for folks who've done a resonator delete with the Sport exhaust system, or just try it. Your exhaust shop could always weld the suitcase back into place if you're unhappy with the results.

    Good luck sir.

Would not drone, since you have the active valves still in place.

There was a post a few years ago, about someone actually cutting open the sport exhaust mufflers and the non-sport mufflers and the baffling is completely different, which adds to the sound. I have had both on my car and there is 100% a difference between the two; not much louder, but definitely deeper and a bit more noise. Mid-pipes are the same on all models, it is the center and rear mufflers that differ, as noted above.

There are videos out there with rear mufflers in place, with the center suitcase deleted. To me, if you don’t want a loud exhaust and prefer the OEM sound, you’ll likely think it’s too loud

I found that thread recently. https://www.audizine.com/forum/showt...r+side+muffler

Also remember one of the euro guys chimed in something about the mid box being different but haven't tried to find the post.

The one thing i dislike about the sport exhaust is that the only difference (aside from black tips), is that the left muffler is louder. The right muffler is techwise completely the same, only with the black tips.

I ended up staying with standard chrome mufflers, but with a RS6 Sport center suitcase… the sound is much better this way, both left and right mufflers sound the same, less drone and/or noise but a more raw V8 noise. Love it.

This is interesting...I would imagine that a US-spec RS7 center suitcase would be the same as the RS6 one you'd find in Europe?

    I did thisAdded C7.5 sport
Mufflers to my C7 S6. Makes a difference a little deeper tone. Suitcase delete only helps with sound if you have sport mufflers, with the non sport mufflers won’t add significant difference. For me sport mufflers and a suitcase delete with a x pipe is the best sound for these cars not obnoxious, no drone just enough.
