    Question B8 S4 S/C Tensioner Bolt?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone happens to know what I need to remove the s/c belt tensioner? I can see in ELSA that it requires 40nm when fitting but I was hoping someone knew off the top of their head before I get under there.

I recently replaced the belt and it's squeaking like hell. The tensioner only cost $100 so I figured I might as well replace it.

This one arrived the other day - https://www.sparesbox.com.au/part/ga...ensioner-39332

Put the car in service position and use a 14mm?? socket.

    Pretty straightforward

To release tension you use a 16mm but I'm trying to replace the whole tensioner. Just curious to know what bolt it uses, when removing the whole tensioner and replacing it.

    I’m looking through pics, I feel like it’s either a 14mm or a t-40 torx or something…

I'm pretty sure it's only a single bolt holding the tensioner.

The INA branded one I got has the bolt and pulley as one piece. Can’t remove the bolt from the pulley.

Yeah we are talking about the bolt that holds the whole belt tensioner assembly on.

I'm curious to know more about these. Is the extra $ worth it, if so how. Always keen to learn.

It claims to hold tighter tension on the supercharger belt to help prevent slipping on high horsepower tunes. I have this and an extremely tight Kevlar belt and as far as I can tell I don’t slip (I’m IE Dual pulley stage 2)

+1 on the kevlar belt. the reviews are quite mixed on this particular tensioner ???. I think I would go with something like: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/aud...bea-06e903133q

Yeah I have the ECS red kevlar belt as well. T45 was the right size for the s/c tensioner. Looks like the part has been revised and now has a shorter bolt. As it was a real POS to get out. Also replacing the idler pulley too.

Curious to know, is there anyway to confirm belt slippage? I'm dual pulley (189mm + 57mm) and with 034 stage 2+ (e40).

Be careful with using a TORX bit blindly without confirming what the bolt head looks like, I am looking at the one I pulled off my car and it is actually a 10mm triple square and not TORX.

Stick your phone up there and take a picture to confirm.

Sounds like the squeak is coming from the s/c. Replaced tensioner and idler pulley. The noise still exists, took off the s/c belt and the noise goes away. Which leaves only the supercharger.

    Hopefully this noise is playable.
