How long are your batteries lasting you?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just wondering what kind of batteries yall got and how long the batteries are lasting you.

Bought an Interstate AGM battery late 2016. I remember they stated only 3-year warranty, was expecting to buy a new one year 4 or so.

I’m in Houston and the heat kills them. The fact that my S6 has one in the trunk might help but after 3 years with a traditional set up you start to get on borrowed time. 4 seems reasonable for a battery in a trunk in Texas heat. Ive not had my Audi that long so I’ll be interested to hear what others say

Same - in Houston also. My wife’s CC battery would die every 3rd year. The Q5 hasn’t been replaced in 4+. Now that I post this likely will be dead tomorrow. Hah.

If you’re looking into batteries, recommend looking into CostCo. They have a great warranty.

I hope I'm not cursing myself, but I bought my 2013 A6 in '18 and have not replaced it since then. So my current battery has at least 4 years on it in the FL weather. I have checked the life of it via vcds and it's on the edge of its life, I just haven't had any issues to push me to buy 1 asap.

Well now you've done it. That's like saying "That rim and tire that just passed us looks exactly like mine!!" We all know if you see a rim and tire that looks like yours passing you, just slowly pull over and don't mention it or there will be a catastrophic accident. Quick, repeat after me "My battery isn't going to make it another week" This should confuse the curse.

Lol true story, I'll have to do some reverse psychology very soon.

I don't think there is an official "dead zone" for the battery % but I'm currently at 55% after sitting overnight and have an active code 12291 - energy management active stored. It's only a matter of time, I already get random key missing errors even after changing the key fob battery.

Car is a 2016 on its original battery, so far.
Routinely gets parked for 3-4 days at a time, but then gets a good two hour drive to recharge it.

I’ve gotten that key fob issue before! Is that a weak car battery issue? I just figured maybe I had too much stuff in my pocket haha

    2018 S6.
    Now on 3rd battery.
First two batteries were OEM, replaced under warranty, each lasted barely 1 year.
3rd battery is a die hard platinum AGM I installed myself almost 2 years ago and still going strong.

Exact same experience here. 2018 S6. Battery replaced under warranty twice, barely a year on any of them. Don't know how well the 3rd battery lasted, traded in the car shortly after.

I have heard reasons from a weak key fob battery ,to the main battery being weak, having more than one key fob in your pocket or nearby. For me, the only thing that fits is the weak main battery, so I'm assuming that my problem unless there are more possibilities that I haven't heard of yet.

Is there a consensus on here that when a battery is in the trunk that it allows for a longer battery life?

Fun fact. My fathers 18 Ram3500 had batteries from 2013 inside of it. Which requires 2.

Replaced my original battery from 2012 about 2 months ago. So, 10 years

I was impressed when I saw the date stamp. I was certain it had been replaced before.
This is in Norway, if that matters.

I replaced the original OEM Battery after around 7 years 8 months.

It didn't die, but I could hear it cranking a little slower and I was going in for rotator cuff surgery and didn't want to have to deal with it during the long recovery.

A6 TDI, in New England winters!

I always thought getting 5 or 6 years was good. this was impressive.

On a different platform, I just replaced both batteries in our Wrangler and they were less than 4 years old. The main was likely okay but the AUX was shot and in a Wrangler once the AUX goes the main will soon follow. That was a salty $340 repair for just the batteries.

Right there with ya, 2018 S6, 28K miles on the odometer.

On my third battery, all OEM. First battery held up for three years, then was replaced in January. Remarkable it didn't even last a year, but nice that my dealership write it up on a last-minute, end of original warranty replacement.

I've been wondering about my battery as well. 2013 A7 with 32k miles purchased in June 2016. 5.5 years later and I'm still running that original battery.

    A7 TDI Battery

I’m still on the original battery in my 2014 A7 TDI. I’ve asked to have it replaced a couple of times over the years at the dealer during scheduled service, but they always told me it checked out good after a battery test. I don’t drive it that much and it always stays in the garage. It does show signs it’s nearing EOL when I go start it up to take it for a drive. I sometimes notice that I lose the first and second music presets after it sits for a while. I’m not sure exactly why it does that, but I think it’s related to the battery.

The original H8 battery lasted 7 years, Battery tester SOH was 35% and need replacement. I just replaced with an Odyssey H8 battery from FCPEuro. FCP euro offered lifetime warranty including battery, The battery should last the life of the vehicle. I really wanted the AntiGravity Lithium battery , but the price tag of over $1k a bit to steep for my pocket.

I have a 2018 A6, bought new in 2019. Just had the battery replaced under warranty. It sat on dealer lots for a year in New Orleans, so maybe that's what shortened its life. I started noticing last year that the stop/start wasn't working, and even after charging it and driving around for a while, scanning it said the battery was at 70%. Dealer said their scanner just said failed.

11 years in my 2011 A5. Finally died after new owner abused it.

8 years and still going in both my 2014 A5 and S6

I am not a fan of the BEM systems in our cars, but there is no denying they keep our batteries alive far better than other mfgs!!

    Cheers,

6 years on battery in Q7 and 5 in the A6. Both still doing fine even during the most recent cold snap in the Midwest. Cars are garaged at night but one is outside all day during work hours.

-24C or -11F in the GTA today. My car had to think about it a bit before it turned over enough to fire up. Car was sitting for the last 8 days. OG 2016 battery.
